Short description

The course introduces students to studying communication geography as the newest communication studies applied subdiscipline (Falkenheimer and Janson, 2006). Conceptually the course is based on the consrtuctionist approach to communication and on investigating the ‘spacial communicagtion practices’. Topics are purposed to a row of the issues, concerning socail environment of communication actors activities, figuring out space and regional boundaries and interactions, space communication stereotypes, mediatization at urbanization and counter-urbanization processes, placemaking, social cohision and mobilities. The course is addressed students who study communications theories and practices (PR & advertising), political science, tourism. Class sessions include lectures and discussions. The course is suggested collaboratively with the scholars and researchers of specialised departments at the National Communication Association (USA) and European Communication and Research Association.

The sources, characteristics and basic vectors of the development of the theory of visual in film and media will be considered. The course focuses on the formation and development of cinema and film theory since the end of the 19th century. Separately, the construction of the visual language and the basic concepts of visual studies and cinema studies will be considered.

The course is aimed at forming students' comprehensive ideas about the history and theory of visual art in Russia from the Middle Ages to the present days. Attention is concentrated on the origins and evolution of art schools and trends in Russian art. The course is aimed at developing students' systemic knowledge about the aesthetic concepts of Russian art in the Middle Ages, the era of classicism and romanticism, about the schools of realistic art and art nouveau. Particular attention is paid to the Russian avant-garde and the visual culture of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.
