“When I photographed Stanley in 2012, I had no idea this little guy’s charm, smile and pooping on the studio floor would be the inspiration for a new collection of work. Photographing Stanley was the result of a failed negotiation with an animal trainer – I wanted to photograph a Wallaby they had, but could only afford the Donkey… And so it goes – with this fine ass, the Fairy Tale Animal series was born. Stanley lives happily in Sacramento and makes his keep by bringing smiles to those who visit.” –Peter Samuels

“We look great and so does this regal creature, Dazzle the Jacob Sheep, who was photographed on location in Vacaville, a ranch with a penchant for rare sheep varieties who actively promote the slow clothing movement. Jacob Sheep are an old world breed and said to be direct descendants of the flock of sheep acquired by Jacob as mentioned in the book of Genesis.” –P.S.

“Tag the Kodiak Bear” by Peter Samuels | 58” x 48” Ed. of 25 | 2012 | Framed | 6500-

Unframed Sizes/Prices: 57” x 47” / 4700- | 44” x 36” / 2800- | 35” x 28” / 1700-

“Tag the Kodiak is a Hollywood Bear living in Los Angeles. Tag was about 3 years old at the time I photographed him and stood about 6.5 feet tall. An electrified hot wire was laid around the set; however, Tag was well behaved enough that the hot wire was intentionally left disconnected - good bear... Tag was cute enough to make you wish you could cuddle and his deep-throated roars simply meant he wanted another cookie.” –P.S.

“Jack the Belgian Hare” by Peter Samuels | 58” x 48” Ed. of 25 | 2012 | Framed | 6500-

Unframed Sizes/Prices: 57” x 47” / 4700- | 44” x 36” / 2800- | 35” x 28” / 1700-

“Jack the Belgian Hare lived a happy life as a pet and even happier since he was a stud for hire on the side. However, sadly, Jack recently left us due to a mosquito-transmitted virus. Jack is fondly remembered for his curious and playful disposition and also for getting along with my dog, Leica, who shared the very same coloration.” –P.S.

“Joffrey the amazing Golden Crested Polish Rooster was a good boy and loyal pet living in Santa Cruz, Ca. However, shortly after this photo shoot, Joffrey was sadly taken down while protecting his roost from a Fox. While the Fox has since been identified, DNA testing of the scene was inconclusive; the Fox is still at large and has declined any interviews.” –P.S.

“This beauty is Garbo the Barn Owl, with a graceful demeanor and ballerina like moves, Garbo, like her namesake, brings a room to life - until you hear her shriek…while others say ‘who’, the Barn Owl makes a raspy hiss that’s akin to the exorcist… However, with a face that inspires wizardly and magical incarnations, a few awkward sounds can be overlooked. Side note: Owls do not live in flocks, but the term for a group of owls is a parliament – who knew? Garbo is living happily in Santa Rosa at the Bird Rescue Center.” –P.S.

“Faulkner the Bluefaced Leicester (pronounced Less-Ter) Ram is a rare breed of sheep of English decent. With his Roman nose, dark blue skin and twinkle in his eye, Faulkner is the Hugh Hefner of his flock, living the life of a polyamorous rockstar on a ranch in Vacaville, Ca. When asked about his hot and heavy lifestyle, he Baaa’d, “Being a stud is serous business” then smirked and waddled away to eat more pellets.” –P.S.

(Unframed 25” x 34” | 1700-)

“This little gem of a giant, sitting at just under 4.5 lbs., is Oberman the Pixie Frog, a breed that claims the fame of inspiring Jabba the Hutt. Oberman doesn’t say or do all that much, but his mere presence is a plenty, plus, he’s a really good listener. If Buddha were ever depicted as a frog, it’d easily be Oberman; fat, happy and present. Oberman resides in Oakland as a pet, eats mostly anything and dreams of someday eating his owner.” – P.S.

Initially preferring to photograph a Wallaby, it turns out that he could only afford the donkey… “Stanley the Donkey” was fortuitous as his success was the genesis of what would become a popular and captivating series.

It should be noted that all of Peter’s subjects are live animals and therefore require a good amount of guidance and the artist a great deal of patience in capturing these alluring images.

“Being a professional commercial photographer since the dawn of time (circa 1990..) My creative career path has seen a few evolutionary progressions over the years. Then, in 2009 a dog named, Leica became my muse and a new photographic passion was realized. However, I soon learned she was a gateway dog as I began photographing more dogs, then cats, horses and before I knew it, even farm animals were becoming suspicious. While my time with Leica was sadly cut short, she lovingly inspired a new direction in my work and career - good dog.” – Peter Samuels

Peter Samuel’s work has earned countless photographic awards over the past decade.
