Business Minors Fall 2012

Beginning Fall 2012 students will be allowed to choose their own business minor

Every student must select one business minor

A student still has the option to add as many non-business minors as they wish

Policy is retroactive for all active catalogs: 2007-2009 2009-2011 2011-2012

Page 21: Fall 2012 Faculty Advising Seminar

MINOR ADVISING: POINTS TO REMEMBER

Business majors must have one business minor (they cannot have two)

Courses calculated into the student’s major cannot be included in the minor (those marked MAJ on the Upper Division form) Business CORE and any Major Auxiliary courses may be used in the minor

Students must complete all business CORE requirements, regardless of the minor selection

Check residency requirements for each minor

The major and minor must be from the same catalog year

Students may not major and minor in the same subject area i.e. ACTG majors cannot have the ACTG/INFS minor

Remind students that choosing a different business minor may add courses beyond the 120 hours required for the degree

Students receiving any kind of financial aid or Lottery Scholarship should speak with a Financial Aid Representative before changing and/or taking courses in the new minor

When your advisee is ready to file his/her Upper Division form and wants a business minor other than the incorporated minor, the minor portion must also be signed

Page 22: Fall 2012 Faculty Advising Seminar

Minors cont.

The incorporated minors of Business Administration and Economics and Finance will remain attached to the program of study

These will only be ‘detached’ from the program with the completed ‘elective minor’ section on the back of the upper-division form and a signature

Those minors other that the incorporated will likely require more than 120 hours

Page 23: Fall 2012 Faculty Advising Seminar

How does the student change the minor?

Business Administration Minor

Economics/Finance Minor

Minors cont.

The most important rule regarding these optional minors is this one:

You may not use the same course in a major and a minor

If the course is being calculated in the major (MAJ) then you MAY NOT use it in the minor

You may crossover CORE courses

Page 25: Fall 2012 Faculty Advising Seminar

If the course is being calculated in the major (MAJ) then you MAY NOT use it in the minor
