    Facts and fgures

    Around 6,000 companies operate in

    Germanys waste management industry,employing more than 200,000 people.

    With a share o around 25 percent,

    Germany is the worlds leading exporter o

    closed cycle management technologies.

    In 2003 the dynamic on the international

    markets or recycling and disposal technolo-

    gies accelerated signifcantly with around

    21 percent per year.

    According to Federal Environment Ministry

    fgures, annual turnover in the waste

    management industry in Germany is

    around 50 billion euro. The global market or

    waste management and recycling plants alo-ne is estimated at 35 billion euro.

    The market or automated material separati-

    on systems looks set to have particular good

    opportunities or growth. Experts predict thatthis market will grow by 15 percent p.a. over

    the coming years, to as much as 1.5 billion

    euro in 2020.

    Investments needed in waste managementor the period 2007 to 2020, e.g. in Russia,

    Turkey and ASEAN countries, are estimated at

    around 44 billion euro.

    Exports are expected to generate produc-

    tion in Germany to a value o around

    9.7 billion euro.
