donated by community members and
local businesses representing apparel
from different historical eras. It provides
important teaching materials for the
fashion courses. It also creates
collaborative
opportunities
that benefits
the local
community.
COSTUME COLLECTION
Student Fashion Association is a nonprofit, on-campus student
organization at Sac State. It is an organization for all Sac State students
who are passionate about fashion aiming to provide industry and
professional opportunities to our members. SFA also strives to connect the fashion community with the Sac State fashion program for potential recruitment, intern placements, and career trainings. The ultimate goal of SFA is to not only create growth and
open new career paths to our members, but also
grow and collaborate
with our local
community and the fashion
community.
STUDENT FASHION ASSOCIATION (SFA)
The major prepares students for careers in the global fashion industry, including management, marketing, buying, advertisement, promotion, manufacturing, sourcing,
distribution, retailing, and many more. The program also emphasizes the contemporary and historical ways of meeting the economic, physiological, aesthetic, psychological, sociological, and cultural needs of consumers relative to fashion products. The program offers a vast array
of courses that cover different areas of the fashion industry. Students learn the basics of fashion by taking foundation courses. Upper division marketing classes allow students to
become more familiar with the business side of fashion. Courses focusing on the basic design skills introduce students to the creative side of the industry. This program provides well-
rounded education that prepares students for jobs in any area of the fashion industry.

FASH 30 Fashion and Human Environment - An introduction to the study of fashion and human environment from an individual’s perspective.
FASH 31 Textiles - Study of fibers, yarns, fabrics and finishes.
FASH 32 Fundamentals of Apparel Production - Applied basic construction of clothing with emphasis on standards and custom techniques.
FASH 130 History of Fashion - Study of dress in Western and non-Western civilization from ancient times through the present.
FASH 131 Quality Analysis: Apparel - Analysis of apparel construction and production.
FASH 133 Creative Principles of Apparel Design - Study of functional and aesthetic elements of apparel design. Focus on fashion illustration.
FASH 134 Introduction to Fashion Industry - Learn about the total fashion industry, including past, present, and future directions.
FASH 135 Merchandise Buying - Develop basic buying skills and learn about the role of a buyer in merchandise management and decision making.
FASH 136 Fashion Retailing - An in-depth exploration of fashion retailing from different perspectives with focus on merchandising techniques.
FASH 137 Clothing, Society, and Culture - Study the relationship of humans and clothing within their cultural and social environment.
FASH 139 Textiles and Apparel in the Global Economy - Overview of global factors affecting the textiles and apparel industries and trade.
