Top ps:
· Be crea ve! A healthy lunch keeps ac ve kids alert and focused and gives them the nutri on they need every day. But no ma er how healthy your child’s lunch box is, it won’t provide any nutri‐onal value if it doesn’t get eaten!
· Choose from a variety of food types: fruit and vegetables, starchy food, protein and dairy ‐ What to put in the lunch box. h ps://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/parents‐carers/healthy‐ea ng‐and‐drinking/lunch‐box‐ideas/what‐to‐put‐in‐the‐lunch‐box.aspx

If your child doesn’t eat their lunch, ask yourself:
· Is the lunch box wrong? Your child might prefer a brown paper bag or the latest type of lunch box.
· Is lunch boring? Try to pack a different lunch every day. For younger children, try cu ng the sandwiches in different ways.
· Is it too much? If so, offer smaller servings. Half a sandwich might be more appropriate than a whole one.
· Is it too fiddly? Some children are put off by fiddly packaging or don't like ge ng s cky hands. Try removing the orange peel or cut a kiwi in half and add a spoon.
And if all else fails... Try to make sure that your child at least has a nutri ous breakfast and dinner ‐ and trust that they'll eat when they are hungry.

School Swimming Carnival
On Wednesday 1st of February 2017, Maroubra Bay set off to Des Renford Leisure Centre for our annual School Swimming Carnival. The Junior races kicked off with the crowds cheering, along with great support from the parents. The freestyle races were followed by breaststroke, backstroke and bu erfly events. One of the most exci ng events was the 4 by 50m freestyle house relay, in which War‐rigal (Green) finished first, followed by Birrabaan (Yellow) and Budjan (Red). Following lunch, many of our non‐swimmers were given the chance of going in a waist height pool for about 30 minutes, which they found very refreshing. At the end of the day there were a total of 10 records broken (see table below). Well done to all these students on their results.
We would like to thank all the parents who helped with the ming and thank the teachers for all the hard work they put in this to make it happen. We are looking forward to our students con nuing to succeed at the Zone Swimming Carnival, which will be held at Botany Aqua c Centre on Monday 27th February. We would also like to congratulate Budjan (Red) who finished first overall, followed by Birrabaan (Yellow) in second place and Warrigal (Green) in third.

Rain, glorious rain! Whilst the torrential downpour many have caused havoc on the roads, in the garden it was very much welcomed. The hot weather during the holidays meant long dedicated hours of watering to keep the garden alive. A huge thank you to Mr Mac, Jana, Kat, Jo and their families for helping out during the holidays. What’s growing? The pumpkin and watermelon vines have taken over in two of the top garden beds. All going well, we hope to hold our pumpkin market stall and make homemade watermelon icypops again by the end of Term 1. 2016 Garden projects Five classes undertook trial garden projects in term 4 of last year. Take a wonder down to the garden and look at their achievements. In 2017, all classes will be working in the garden at some point throughout the year.

Bring out the best in your child with performing arts education!
The Australian Youth Choir helps young boys and girls from 7 years of age upwards, to discover their vocal talent. Students learn to sing, develop their musicianship and performance skills, and make new friends.
Singing in a choir stimulates the mind, imagination and spirit, with research showing it has a profound affect on a child’s general learning of literacy and numeracy. Weekly rehearsals and 2 concerts a year.
