PRE-FAIR CLEAN UP FUN WHILE PATROLLING HERDSMANSHIP CONTEST
Due to a conflict at the fairgrounds on Monday, July 18 the pre-fair cleanup will be moved to Tuesday, the 19th, time will remain the same 9-11 am.
Clubs scheduled to help with clean up on this day include: Dili-gent Dovers, Eden Outer Limits, Eldorado Eagles, Fayette Co. Crossovers, Fayette County Hoof-beats, Pleasant Valley Sharp-shooters, FFA chapters of North Fayette, Sumner-Fredericksburg & Wapsie Valley.
Once again this year “make and takes” will be offered for those visiting the 4-H Exhibit Hall. Ac-tivities will be posted each day to let everyone know what is being offered and which club is leading the activity. Reminded to leaders that it is important for you to let Michele know what type of activi-ty your club would like to do so supplies can be ordered.
A reminder to all 4-H and FFA members that it is very important your club/chapter attend the cleanup that you have been as-signed. It is the responsibility of each person in attendance to sign in by listing their name and the club/chapter in which they are representing that day on the clip board by seeing Michele Kelly or Chelsey Fagle. Attending clean-up could possibly help make or break a tie when it comes to the herdsmanship contest.

Dear Clover Kids,
In this issue of the Clover Kids Connection I thought I
would recap the steps it takes for you to show your pets,
dogs or bucket bottle calves at the upcoming Fayette
County Fair, exhibiting projects you may have done
throughout the year at Clover Kids meetings or as class-
room projects or participate in the Communications/
Clothing/Food & Nutrition day in early July.
Please make sure you share with mom and dad as it is very
important information!
June 15th is a very important date in which the following
forms must be turned into the Fayette Extension Office.
All forms talked about can be obtained by contacting
your Clover Kids leader.
Animal Entry form: This is a white form in which you list
what you will be bring to the fair to be judged in the pet,
dog or bucket/bottle show. It is important for this form
to be completed and returned to the office by 5 pm on
June 15th.
Fayette County Fair Exhibitor T-shirt must be worn when
visiting with a judge. This included small animals, dog,
bucket/bottle and items being brought to non-livestock
judging held at the beginning of fair. The Clover Kids t-
shirt form is deep pink in color and must also be returned
to the Extension Office by June 15th along with $2. Ad-
ditional shirts maybe ordered in the same size for a fee
of $5 each. This form also has a spot in which exhibitor
tickets may be ordered but note that Clover Kids do
NOT need an exhibitor ticket. This same form can be
used for older siblings exhibiting at the fair.
Communications/Clothing/Food & Nutrition Day entries
are also due on June 15th. Once again please get copies of
this form from your club leader. Remember a photo of
you modeling the outfits you selected for the Clothing
Selection and $15 Challenge need to be turned in on that
day also.

Summer Fun and Games!
Now that the school year has come to an end,
I hope each of you enjoy the summer. I sug-
gest you give the following games a try as you
and your friends gather. Staying active is im-
portant but be sure you also drink plenty of
water.
KICK THE CAN
Kick the can is basically a variation on hide and seek.
One person is IT. A different player kicks the can as
far as he or she can, and while IT is retrieving the can
everyone else scatters and tries to hide. IT then be-
gins searching. When IT finds someone, IT calls out
the person's name and location (for example they may
should out 1,2,3 on Kathy behind the tree), and both
IT and the person caught race back to the can. If the
hider kicks the can first he or she is safe to go hide
again. If IT kicks the can first, the hider is in jail and
must sit next to the can. Those in jail can be released
if some other hider can run and kick the can without
getting caught. The game is over when IT has jailed
everyone. The first person caught is IT for the next
game. If the game runs on too long, the first person
caught three times can be the new IT.
CAPTURE THE FLAG
Capture the flag is an exciting game that can be played
in any area, such as playground, open field, or back-
yard; and it can be played with any number of children
(the more the better!). After the children pick teams
(another game in itself), each team attempts to re-
trieve the flag from enemy territory and return it
across the border, which is the imaginary centerline of
the playing area. The flag, which may actually be a ball
or some other object, can be relayed or passed en
route to the border crossing; should it touch the
ground at any point however, it must be returned to
the enemy's flag site. Also, if tagged by an opponent in
enemy territory, the player tagged is taken to jail,
where the only way out is to be tagged by a teammate.
PICKLE
For pickle you need two bases (in my day, playing be-
tween two clothesline poles was ideal) and at least four
players, although six is better. Two players are IT and
the other players are the base runners. The base run-
ners position themselves on the bases and the ITS
toss the ball back and forth between the bases. When
a player feels brave he or she darts to the other base.
The ITS try to throw the ball at the player who is off
the base. If the ball hits the runner then the runner
takes ITs place. If IT misses the runner then the
game continues on as is. There are a couple of varia-
tions on pickle. We always played with a soft ball, like a
Nerf football, but it can be played with a baseball and
gloves in which case the runners are tagged with the
glove as in baseball. Do not throw the baseball at the
runner!
SPOTLIGHT
Spotlight can be played in a variety of ways, all of
which are simply nighttime versions of daytime games.
Kids need a dark and safe place to play, and a flash-
light. Again you have an IT, and as IT counts the other
players hide. If spotlight is played like tag, then when
the flashlight beam touches a hider he or she becomes
IT. If spotlight is played like classic hide and seek,
then IT has to find everyone, and the first person
caught becomes IT. If spotlight is played like kick the
can, then the hiders who are jailed can be rescued by
being tagged by someone who has not been caught
(although no can is actually kicked).
