Share Lent Pilgrimage – Working to end inequality in Paraguay

This week our pilgrimage travels to Paraguay where we meet Liz Benitez. Her country is one where 1% of the landowners hold 77% of arable land. Liz’s family are part of a peasant movement supported by Development and Peace who work to gain access to land for the poorest farmers in the country, the campesinos. They have been threatened by the state and police because of their work. “I just want to live peacefully with my family,” she says. This year consider stretching your Share Lent donation across the whole year with our Share Lent – Year Round monthly giving program. Brochures are available at the back of the Church.

Lenten 'MEATLESS SOUP' Suppers are held on each Friday of Lent.

This Friday, February 26th will be hosted by the Liturgy Committee

at 5:00 p.m. in the parish hall.

Stations of the Cross will be held at 6:00 p.m.

in the church each Friday during Lent. .

Eucharistic Adoration Ministry of Sault Ste. Marie Adoration Chapel

Located at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church The Roman Catholic community of the City of Sault Ste. Marie is privileged to have an Adoration Chapel

where Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is present at all times. This Chapel is located in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 114 MacDonald Avenue.

We are running into difficulties where a lot of the Adorers are getting to an age where they are unable to attend the Chapel due to sickness or lack of transportation.

The Chapel is open from 6:00 a.m. until Midnight.

Anyone can drop in for a visit during that time; however, we do need adorers committed to a weekly visit for an hour.

We urgently require an Adorer for the hours of: Sunday 6:00pm--7:00pm;

Tuesday 8:00am — 9:00am Saturday 8:00am—9:00 am

Please call one of the following co-ordinators of the Chapel if you would like to come to the Chapel to experience the peace and tranquility of spending one hour weekly with Jesus:

Susanne Quinn-Perron 450-7732; Angela Rasaiah 949-2208; and Raffaela Medaglia 206-3968.

CWL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Many thanks goes out to our members & ladies of the parish, who support us in our fundraisers and all our volunteer work that we do throughout the year. A special thanks goes out to the volunteers this Sunday for helping with the Friendship Meal. As most of you know the theme chosen for the jubilee year is One Heart, One Voice, One Mission: Palliative and Hospice Care which focuses on outward expressions of mercy towards our brothers and sisters, as they reach the end of their lives. Pope Francis calls us to be the visible face of Christ in the world and this is who we are, Catholic women, the faces of Christ in the world. May our patroness, Our Lady of Good Counsel, remain with us and be our strength as we endeavour to do the work of Her Son here on earth. Many thanks, Lois Lemieux, CWL President.

HOW WE SEE THINGS IN LIFE- This Is Good

The story is told of a king in Africa who had a close friend with whom he grew up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, "This is good!" One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation, the friend remarked as usual, "This is good!" To which the king replied, "No, this is not good!" and proceeded to send his friend to jail. About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took him to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake. As they came near to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king was missing a thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone who was less than whole. So untying the king, they sent him on his way. As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend ."You were right," he said, "it was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell the friend all that had just happened. "And so, I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this. "No," his friend replied, "This is good!" "What do you mean, 'This is good'? How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year?" "If I had not been in jail, I would have been with you." —————————————————————————————–———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-—————————
