Message from your class director
In this issue Hello my fellow key clubbers!
It’s almost “next year” already… But, if you really think
about it, this Key Club year has been a blast. With all the fun
events and fundraisers, coming back next year is worth the wait
because we can re-experience all those old events and make more
memories. You guys have already elected your officers for next
year, and sooner than later, the current board will have to take a
step back for someone else to take their place. Since it’s going to
be my senior year in Key Club after the summer of this year, I’m
going to make the best of it. I suggest that in the future in Key
Club, all of you guys will sign up for almost every event and take
every opportunity you see. One day, you’ll regret not signing up
for an event or attending a fundraiser, OR even running for board.
Make your high school experience revolve partially around Key
Club because you’ll make more friends, have endless fun, and
obtain a more passionate dedication for community service. Make
the best out of everything before you graduate. Christine La

Message from your Key Club President
HEY KEY CLUBBERS! <3 February is the shortest month of the year. :( But that's okay! We still had
tons of events this month and plenty more to go! How did you all like the HOT CHOCOLATE
VALENTINE GRAM we made and deliver? :D I hope it warmed you//your significant other//your friends
up! Because it sure did warm up mine! Just the fact that I'm paying $2 to Key Club to give back to a good
cause already DOES warm me up! :) And what about our PIZZA MY HEART FUNDRAISER?! Isn't the
pizza there just heavenly? :) I hope you all had a great time at pizza my heart with your friends and family
if you went. If you didn't, try to come out to our next fundraiser! You'll definitely have fun hanging out
with Key Clubbers. :) Anyways, I hope you guys all had a blast in February, and especially since we
ended it with an awesome election! CONGRATULATIONS to the WINNING CANDIDATES! Let's
have another amazing year with Key Club. :)
Love, Your Vice President: Connie Ha :)

Caring – Our Way of Life. We try to live up to our motto through district projects.
Due to the Division 12 East Lieutenant Governor’s elections, our fellow project
director, Jessica Yu, didn’t get her dream to make a difference. But during our
home club elections, there was a close turnout between two candidates. And of
course, only one person could win, so say congratulations to President Jessica Yu.
Her PROJECT PASSION was truly inspiring and her passion really did some through.
As a club, we owe her applause for trying so hard and dedicating her time into
this opportunity.
Committees be a part of key club in a different way
Fundraising Committee
(Chaired by Phong) In this committee, we plan and host the fundraising events. We fundraise for our Key
Club and the district projects. For the past couple months, we’ve had fundraisers like the Pizza My Heart
Fundraiser, the 10 Year Anniversary Charity Dinner, the Pizza California Fundraiser, and the Hot
Chocolate Valentine’s Day Gram. For our Hot Chocolate V-day Gram, we had about 100 customers with
$2 at cup. So that means we’ve raised approximately $200 or so. How amazing are we?
Publicity Committee (Chaired by David) In this committee, we make posters, flyers, etc, any sort of advertisement to get Key
Club or a Key Club event known.
Message from David himself: Publicity committee help publicize Independence Key Club in every
possible way. From painting posters, to making and passing out flyers! We spread Key Club around our
community and make our organization well known. We assist the Fundraising Committee when they need
to advertise their upcoming fundraisers. Also, we will be scripting and filming videos for major Key Club
events, such as Fall Rally North and District Convention. We will have biweekly meetings during school
to update what we need to do as Publicist Committee.
(Chaired by Calvin) In this committee, we make up cheers and come up with ideas for the wardrobe for
DCON. This committee will not be active until we approach DCON. So, it’s for DCON attendees only.

On, February 24th, 2012, The Salvation Army
of Silicon Valley held their annual
"Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast".
Independence High School Key Club was the
recipient of the "Golden Kettle Award". The
Golden Kettle award is an award that is given
to the group that has demonstrated unlimited
volunteerism throughout the year.

Scrapbook Committee
(Chaired by Melinda) This committee revolves around making one huge scrapbook, taking photographs
and decorating it for a scrapbook. We later enter it into DCON for recognition. For the past couple of
weeks, the scrapbook committee made a tree as a part of their scrapbook. With this tree trunk, let’s see
where their imagination takes them as for their goal is to win the most Distinguished Scrapbook at
DCON. For Melinda and the scrapbook committee, that’s a BIG DEAL!
Message from Melinda herself: “Hey Key Clubbers!! Join the
scrapbook committee if you want to do ANY of the following:
Have loads of fun, make new friends, create a scrapbook with
awesome key clubbers, or just cause! Throughout the year, we
create a scrapbook that we will enter at DCON. Last year we
won Outstanding Scrapbook! This year we are shooting for
DISTINGUISHED. Come out and join, we don't bite!”
Events
Miscellaneous hear a random fact…
Hours – A good way to get hours is to participate in the events the project
directors find for Key Club. Take a good look at the past events and the upcoming
events for a better look at the great progress the project directors have made.
Past events let’s reminisce through the good times…

Valentine’s Day Hot Chocolate Grams
This year for Valentine’s Day, the Key Club board and officers decided
to do a fundraiser for Valentine’s Day. We didn’t want to be ordinary
and send teddy bears with chocolates and/or candy. We thought outside
the box and decided to go with the idea of giving people hot chocolate.
With all the preparation, thanks to our board and officers who sacrificed
their class time to deliver the grams, this fundraiser came out as a
success. We had around 100 customers and sold the hot chocolate at $2
each, with a total of about $200! Thank you to all the people who made
this fundraiser worthwhile. We couldn’t have raised all the money
without you guys!
Pizza My Heart Fundraiser
To all the pizza lovers who came to the Pizza My Heart
fundraiser during winter break thanks a BILLION, not a million!
Going to this fundraiser was a great way to help our club and
most of all, enjoy the mouth watering pizza. You know, if you
buy any slice of pizza, you can have purchased a t-shirt for $5!
What a good bundle. Thank you again to all who contributed to
this club by attending this fundraiser!
InterKey Bonding Trash Pick-Up
While Interact and Key Club joined together to make
Independence a cleaner place to be, Interact and Key Club
got to bond as two great community service clubs! It wasn’t

company. Thank you Interact for taking your time off from
your own duties and coming together with us for some fun!
