Kindergarten Registration for 2015-16

The public elementary

schools in Chippewa Falls

are beginning to register

children for kindergarten for

the 2015-16 school year.

All children who will be five years old on or before

September 1, 2015, and who will be entering

kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year should be

registered. Registration will be held at Stillson on

Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Information will be

sent in March and we will begin phone registration

at that time.

Wisconsin’s Smarter Balanced Assessment

The Badger Exam in grades 3-8 is Wisconsin's

Smarter Balanced Assessment. It will be administered

during the last 8 weeks of the school year. Smarter

summative assessments are administered in English

Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics for grades

3-8.The summative assessment will consist of two

parts: a computer adaptive test, and performance tasks

that will be taken on a computer but will not be

computer-adaptive. For more information, please go

to this website: oea.dpi.wi.gov/assessment/Smarter/resources

TWO-HOUR DELAYS

Weather Reminders

Please be sure your child leaves in the morning dressed for the weather conditions. Dressing in layers is

always a good idea. Boots, gloves, hats and snow pants should become part of their standard attire. Students

will be going outside during recess except when the actual temperature or wind chill is –6 or colder. They

will be allowed to play in the snow if dressed properly. It is also important to label your child’s clothing

and boots. Recess is an important time for social interaction. Exercise is a critical component for healthy

growth and academic success.

All students will be expected to go outside for recess.

Providing safe transportation for our student population is a top priority. Wisconsin weather is

notorious for its instant changes and erratic behavior.

This year the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District in collaboration with McDonnell

Area Catholic Schools and Chippewa Yellow Bus Company will be utilizing a TWO-HOUR

DELAY when inclement weather necessitates safer travel time.

By school district policy, inclement weather decisions must be made no later than 6:00 a.m.

We plan to communicate any weather related decisions in the following ways:

Local TV, Radio, News print

District website, district social media (Facebook, Twitter)

Campus messenger notifications, including family email, voicemails, text messages

District Mobil App alerts

Because of the unique nature of a TWO-HOUR DELAY, the following adjustments to stu-

dent schedules will be implemented:

Busses would run two hours behind their normal schedule

Buildings would begin sessions two hours behind normal start time

No breakfast would be served

School lunch would be at or around the normal time

AM BB4C would be cancelled

Head Start would be cancelled for the entire day

As we all know, Wisconsin weather conditions can change rapidly. In the rare event that a

TWO-HOUR DELAY must switch to a FULL DAY, the decision will be made no later than

8:00 a.m.

Cartridges for Cash

We are collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges to turn in for cash! We have partnered with a

company that will pay us for our empty cartridges and issue a check for their value on a

monthly basis.

Most empty inkjet cartridges are worth $1 to $2.50 each, and some laser cartridges are worth up

to $8.00! Our “paycheck” could add up fast, so please help by bringing all the cartridges you use!

Here’s how you can help:

Don’t put empty cartridges in the trash!

Please bring all empty cartridges to the LMC.

Bring empty cartridges from home and add to the collection (and

our check!)

They will also take our recycled and refurbished cartridges to

dispose in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

Students are acknowledged for following our Stillson expectations by receiving a blue ticket from

any staff member in our building. These tickets are collected in the classroom

and turned into the office every Friday for a drawing. The tickets are entered

in the drawing. The names are announced on Channel 7 News on Monday

morning. Then the students come to the office to pick a prize. This year 2nd,

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders also have the opportunity to save their tickets and

work toward a bigger prize. This new way of collecting blue tickets is an extra

incentive for our older students.

These are the names that were drawn for January:

We also had students redeem blue ticket prizes off the award menu. Congratulations:

We will continue to watch for great student behavior for our Friday drawing. Good job and

continue to encourage the 3 Bs at home!

Traffic Reminders

Please BE SAFE when driving your car: The students walk across Highway J at the beginning and the end of the their school day. When the yellow lights are blinking, please reduce your speed limit and watch closely for students crossing Highway J. The speed limit is posted at 15 miles per hour when children are present.

February is National Dental Health Month!

Lifelong habits begin at home. Make dental health part of your daily

routine and share these reminders with your whole family:

►Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste,

especially after breakfast and before bedtime.

►Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.

►Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss.

Older children should be ready to floss on their own.

►Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting

ones.

►Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning.

►Protect your teeth by wearing a mouth guard when playing sports.

►Don’t forget to change your tooth brush regularly, and after an illness.

Sweet snack facts:

Eating a lot of snacks with sugar may cause cavities.

Every time you eat sugar, plaque in your mouth mixes with the sugar

to make

acid. The acid hurts the teeth and causes decay over time. This can be

painful!

The Bright Smiles Dental Program will be presenting information to the

2nd

and 3rd

grade students about their sealant program.

Posting Pictures on Social Media Outlets

Our students are given the opportunity to expand their learning outside of the school walls

on field trips throughout the school year. We appreciate the support we get from families to

act as chaperones so that the events can take place. We also realize there are many exciting

things happening at school that are captured by digital cameras and etc. These things are

wonderful and contribute to the education your child is receiving.

We ask that out of courtesy and respect, and for the safety of our students, that if you

choose to post pictures on social media outlets, you do not tag the pictures with names of

students other than your own. Thank you for your cooperation and your consideration of
