GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Model PC20 Intelligent Field Device Configurator is a powerful Windows-based software and hardware package providing remote bidirectional communications with the complete family of Foxboro and Foxboro-Eckardt I/A Series® Intelligent field devices. The software package combines the functionality of the Model HHT Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) with the capabilities afforded by the large display, storage capacity, and keyboard flexibility of a personal computer.

The Model PC20 combines the world class functionality of the PC10 Configurator for FoxCom devices, and the ABO991 Configurator for HART devices. The PC20 software with a FoxCom or HART (or both) modem allows the user to:

Save, display or print the entire database.

View full screen displays to speed off-line configuration.

Reconfigure the tag number, tag name, device name, location, upper and lower range values, damping time, digital or 4 to 20 mA output, type of units measured, and other configurable parameters, as required.

Accurately rerange without the need of applying a calibrated input signal.

Diagnose problems and determine if it is a process or device error.

Adjust the device output to any value for verification, troubleshooting, or loop calibration.

The PC20 Configurator emulates the functions of the Foxboro Model HHT Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) or the HART M275 Hand-Held Communicator on a personal computer.

With a greater display capability and the increased number of keys afforded by the computer, all operations can be performed with fewer keystrokes than with the hand-held configurator.

This package provides an ideal means of preconfiguring Intelligent Transmitters or Positioners. Once the databases have been preconfigured, they can be easily downloaded from a desktop, laptop, or palmtop computer to the device after installation.

Downloading can be performed either in the field or from a remote location such as the wiring room or control room.

The PC20 Configurator provides password protection to prevent any changes to any Intelligent Transmitter or Positioner without proper authorization.

Direct connections between the PC20 Configurator and intelligent device are physically maintained by the modem. Refer to Figures 1 and 2 for functional block diagrams using a FoxCom or HART modem, each with a provided Foxboro power supply (Option -C), or a power supply provided by the user.

Because the modem uses the field-proven Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) technique, the transmitter output signal or positioner set point is not disturbed during communication between computer and field device.

CONFIGURATOR USED WITH I/A Series® SYSTEM

Model IFDC, offered as a functionally equivalent software package is a component of an I/A Series system.IFDC enables the user to communicate with Foxboro Intelligent Devices via Workstation Processors and Application Workstations. Refer to PSS 21S-8A3 B3.
