Recording the weather daily and practicing the days of the week (Videos below)
Our Enquiry / Topic question is; Do all Insects Look the Same ? Week One:Watch The Very Hungry Caterpillar Story
https://youtu.be/75NQK-Sm1YY
To draw your favourite fruit and label it (on your own or with an adult’s help). If you’re a writing expert, write a simple sentence about the fruit; What colour is it? Does it have a skin? Is it bumpy or smooth? How could you describe its smell? Taste? e.g I like to eat ………….. because they are …………….My favourite fruit is a ………. because it is ……..
Help write a shopping list of things that the hungry caterpillar ate. Remember to start each new list item on a new line.
Week Two: Watch the story of The Very Busy Spider
https://youtu.be/TfL0g-XRxnA Can you name all the animals who wanted to play with the spider? Draw some of the farm animals and label them.
Other topic ideas:
Draw a caterpillar and a butterfly, colour them in and label them. Watch this video of the life cycle of a butterfly and draw your own life cycle of the butterfly
https://youtu.be/jivWeOrCaeI Go on a minibeast hunt in your garden or when you leave the house for a local walk. Draw and label what
you find. What did you find? Where did you find them? What do they look like? Do they have wings? Find out more about different mini beasts using books, videos or the internet. Which ones have legs?
Which ones have wings? How many legs do they have? How do they move? What do they eat? Draw a mini beast and label its body parts. Try a new fruit! Are there any from the story that you haven’t tasted
before? Can you help make a fruit kebab/ fruit salad? You can use slices of fruit
to make them look like a caterpillar! Can you sing the days of the week song?
Can you make a mini beast hotel in your garden?
https://youtu.be/OexxoXo9uFk Can you sort healthy food and unhealthy foods? Can you keep a healthy food diary for each day of the week? Design a shopping basket of things that the hungry caterpillar ate. Can you use playdough to make some minibeasts or use left over cardboard boxes and ‘junk’ to make a
minibeast model! Butterfly symmetry – the pattern on a butterfly’s wings are exactly the same; they are symmetrical. Ask
your grown up to draw a pattern on one side of the wings and see if you can copy it on the other side using paint or crayons
Make caterpillar names – cut out circles and write a letter on each one for your name stick together in to a caterpillar shape
Write a fact file about a creature that interests you.
Stories and RhymesThis week’s Stories and Rhymes
As well as reading your own stories this week, here are some links to some lovely stories and rhymes. What stories and rhymes have you shared this week, can you share them on Seesaw?

How many words are in the title? How many letters are in the first
word of the title? What can you see on the front cover?
Where is the story set? Who are the characters? What happened at the
beginning, middle and end?

Maths Maths Learning FocusDaily learning;
Counting to 20 daily (if confident up to 20, count to higher numbers), counting back from 10 daily Counting objects around the home; cutlery, toys, lego bricks, teddies etc- putting them in a line and
touching each one as they count- What is one more? What is one less? Counting actions – choose an action and repeat it a given number of times, i.e. jump 4 times, clap 5 times
etc. Ask a grown up to model clapping a number of times, listen carefully to count how many. Number formation practise- practise writing numbers 0-10 correctly. Write them in different ways; with a
pencil and paper, with paint, with water and a paintbrush, with your finger in salt/sand/flour. Ask a grown up to create number cards by writing numerals on pieces of paper and then hide the numbers
around your house/ garden. Can you find them all? Can you put them in order? Close your eyes while a grown up takes a number card away and hides it behind their back. What number is missing?
Week One:
Representing numbers – Create numbered mini-beasts and draw the corresponding legs/ wings/ spots on to them. Can you use marks to represent numbers / amounts?
If you are a maths expert, have a go at working outthe double of numbers using ladybird doubling. See example:
Week Two:
Times of Day / Telling the time – Revisit your daily routine, what do you do in the morning, afternoon and evening?Learn to tell the time to the hour / o’clock. A clock face has a long hand and a short hand, when the long hand points to 12 it is o’clock. What number is the short hand pointing to? This will help you tell the time to the hour. Can you think what time you have your breakfast/dinner/tea/go to bed etc. at home and record it as an o’clock time?
Play ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf’ game – linked to time and counting.
Number songs to sing at home:
12345 Once I caught a fish alive One potato two potato three potato more 5 little ducks went swimming one day 5 currant buns in the bakers shop

Ask yourself: When exercising to keep your body healthy, what changes can you feel? Are you breathing faster? Are you thirsty? Are you hot and sweaty? Did you get tired? Did it help improve how you are feeling?
It is also important to keep your mind healthy during the school closures. Talk to someone at home about how you are feeling every day. If you are feeling happy that is great! It is okay to feel a little sad or worried too so make sure you talk to a grown up about this.We are also posting weekly THRIVE activities on our class SeeSaw page. THRIVE promotes positive mental health and emotional well-being in children. Completing these activities at home can really help you feel closer to your family and strengthen your relationships with your grown-ups at home.
Final Thoughts When you get to the end of the week, have a think about what you have learnt. What can I do now that I found tricky at the beginning of the week? What did I really enjoy doing this week?Is there anything I want to find out about more about? Is there anything I need to practise again?Encourage your child to keep revisiting their learning.
Have a lovely week and stay safe!
