Released in October of 2001 just after the 9/11

attacks. The song debuted at the 2001 CMA Awards and

was such a hit that Jackson’s site crashed the day after the performance from server requests. Soon after it was released as a single.

Reminds me of ballad tradition of writing about events in the community.

Jackson was hesitant to release this song because he didn’t know how the public would like it.

Written in May 1993 by Alan Jackson and Jim

McBride. Hit the top of the charts just before his daughter

was born. Jackson said, "It's a song about having fun, growing

up, and coming of age in a small town - which really applies to anyone across the country, not just by the Chattahoochee. We never thought it would be as big as it's become.“

Won a CMA for Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
