Welcome to the First Family

First Edition - page 2

As July quickly comes to an end, our church continues to “hang in there” through the hot days of summer. Many churches call some of their services off during the summer, but you have remained faithful and we have been blessed to see decisions made for our Lord. Keep up the good work and watch God bless.

A big thank you to those who have had to adjust to our preschool renovation. We look forward to new floors and new walls that upgrade the conditions of that special area of our church. I praise God for those faithful child care and preschool workers who, week after week, take care of our little ones as their parents worship.

We have had several mission trips from our church, and one more (The Brazil Trip) is still pending. It is thrilling to hear the enthusiasm of those who return. For those who can’t go to far away places, remember there is a mission field where we are. Ask God to move in your life, allow Him to show you His glory and, then, step out in faith. Being used by God to bring somebody to Christ is one of life’s most significant moments. The fields of Fairhope are white unto harvest - lost people are all around us.

I will continue to preach from Acts on Sunday morning and Ephesians on Sunday eve-ning. Bring your Bibles, be in your place and ask God to speak to your heart. As Lincoln said at Gettysburg, “the world will little note what we say, but it will never forget what we do.” May God help us to be busy doing what the Lord guides us to do. I pray that the congregation of First Baptist will be like a breath of fresh air to our members and to our community where we live and work. May God bless each of you.Your PastorJerry2 Timothy 1:16-18

amily atters FBC parents and kids team members, as you “talk” with our kids, don’t miss opportunities to engage them in a deeper God filled conversation. Here are 6 simple reminders for engaging kids in conversation whether you’re a volunteer or parent. I encourage you to find an opportunity to engage intentional conversations with our kids. It just might change your life, or theirs!1. Call children by their names. This is very important because it communicates that you care. For all of us, our name is one of the best things we like to hear...its how we are wired.2. Ask open-ended questions (about family, friends, interests, school, etc.). If they can shake their head or answer yes/no to your question, then you won’t go very deep with this conversation.3. Ask appropriate personal or spiritual questions. Too many times, adults shy away from asking kids personal questions. Remember, kids don’t have the same awkward filter that adults do...so they are happy to answer personal questions and talk about spiritual things. It would scare you what they have shared with me about you! JK!4. Share appropriate personal stories with kids. It can be a big relief to find out someone they look up to has been through the same thing. The story can help solidify the point you are making with them too.5. Strive to be honest, genuine, and caring. If we are genuine with kids, we model how they should be when they grow up. They will begin to reciprocate that genuineness now, and it can become a part of all their conversations.6. Have fun! Smile! Strive to foster a responsible sense of Childlikeness. It’s okay to be a big kid and express to a child that you enjoy hanging out and chatting with them! It takes a big kid to connect with kids. Come join us as we seek to help mold the next generation.

Blessing of the Backpacks On Sunday, August 17, we will have our annual “Blessing of the Backpacks” during both morning worship services 8:30am and 11:00am. This is a very special time for our church body to come together for the purpose of praying over the children and educators of our church as they prepare to be the light of Jesus in classrooms around our city this upcoming school year. On this day your child will receive a scripture tag including a prayer and God’s Word to place on their backpack as a visual testimony to their faith. Dr. Henry will also lead us in a special time of prayer for the kids this day. Please do not miss this very special service. All backpacks must be placed on stage 15 minutes prior to each morning worship service. Kids will be called up to stand on stage after service begins. See you at Blessing of the Backpacks!

(w/ Confections & Comedy Night Event) All kids 1st-5th are invited to a Kids Night Out on Friday, August 22 from 6:45 until 9:00 p.m. (in conjunction with Barnes and Miner confections and comedy event) On this night kids will choose their movie – Disney’s “Frozen” will be playing in the Youth room and “The Lego Movie” will be showing in the newly renovated children’s worship area (formerly the garage). A concession area with fresh pizza, hot pop-corn, theatre boxed candy and cold bottled water will be set up on 3rd floor near area between youth center and kids worship room. All kids will receive tickets good to redeem each food item upon arrival. This will be an exciting night for your kids, however they must be signed up online in order to attend this event. Deadline for Kids Night Out is Wednesday August 20th. See you at KNO! Cost for this event is $5.00 (I know right???) see you there! Questions see Bro Kevin!

Thanks for your Flexibility!Thank you to many flexible folks (teachers, workers, parents, Sunday School Classes, Praise Band/Team, basically everyone!) for this past Sunday with all the re-routing to allow for the Preschool renovation to cover a Sunday. Here’s a shot of the Friendship Class who relocated to the Sanctuary for their class time. Considering there were plenty of classes juggled, it went relatively smooth. Again, Thanks!!
