Confirmation Sunday ~ June 4th

On Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, twelve youth will be affirming their baptism at the 9:00 A.M. worship service. The Evangelism Committee will host a reception in their honor during fellowship time after the service.

Confirmation should not be thought of as a graduation, but it IS a "commencement".....a beginning. From that moment, our youth need MORE encouragement to become active members of the Church in the world. Just as you were encouraged by adults around you, it is so important to continue to guide our youth these days. Plan to attend worship on this special day for our youth.

Vacation Bible School Coming Up: July 24th-28th

Summer will be here before we know it – time to register your children for VBS!! It will be for children ages 3 (by July 1, 2017) thru 6th grade (fall of 2017).

For the week to be successful, we will need adults & students (MS and older) who would be willing to help from 8:00-11:30 A.M. each morning. We are also looking for volunteers to supervise a daycare room for children under 3 yrs. old.

If you are able to assist during any or all of the mornings that week we would love for you to join us! Registration forms can be found in the insert of this newsletter, as well as in the narthex (in the Holy Grounds corner). If you can help out, please call or text Alana DeMoss at 563-920-8476, or e-mail her at [email protected].

Ladies Support OCC Mission

The Church Ladies’ Group is apprecia-tive of your support for the Operation Christmas Child/Shoebox project.

Suggested donations for June are mon-etary...the postage & handling charge for each box mailed is $7.00. Please mark your donations as such and place them in the offering plate or take them to the church office. Thank you!

Plans Underway for New

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY!

We have a committee working on details to publish a new church pictorial directory for First Lutheran. It was 2013 when the last one was published, and our congregation has seen many changes since then, including many new members!

We will be asking for assistance from volunteers to help the process go smoothly when the time comes. The dates to have photos taken are set for Tuesday thru Friday, September 5th thru the 9th... the exact times will be set at a later date. Be watching for more information, soon to come!

G.I.G (Girlfriends in God)

Girlfriends in God, our Women's Bible Study group open to all women ages 18 to 108, meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 P.M. in the Friendship Room. We will be continuing our study of “The Battle Plan

for Prayer”. It’s not too late to join us. Come when you are able. All area women are welcome. Questions? Con-tact Cathy Glew or Tanya Burnett.

G.I.G.

Another adult choir season has come to a close, and I would like to take a mo-ment to say thank you to the following individuals who so unselfishly share their musical gifts to enhance the wor-ship services here at First Lutheran: so-pranos - Dawn Askeland, Diane Childs, Janis Creveling, Holly Kress, Lori Roberts; altos - Cindy Baumgartner, Diane Blatt, Penny Holtz, Mary Ann Lov; baritones - Tom Moorhouse, Jon Kress, Jim Zumbach, Ryan Ehrig; accom-panist - Cindy Mickens. Their levels of com-mitment & accountability are high; they know that in such a small choir, every voice counts.

These choir members also wear many other hats in our congregation, so you may see them involved in multiple ser-vices on any given weekend - not just when the choir is scheduled to sing. They are

also good sports and have a high degree of patience when their director says, “I have an idea…” We sing a wide variety of musical styles - for our own enjoyment, to challenge ourselves, to try and reach out to all ages of our congregation - but most importantly, to the Glory of God (although your kind words of support help keep us going throughout the year as well!). We look forward to sharing our music ministry with you again in the fall (after we “recharge” a bit this summer), and as al-ways, NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME! A special THANK YOU to Cindy Mickens, our accompanist - we will miss you, and we wish you well in your new teaching position!

~ Kathy Moorhouse, Adult Choir Director

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

**Please Note: We LOVE having

special music during summer ser-

vices. If you are interested in sharing

your vocal or instrumental talents in this

way, please call Kathy Moorhouse (927-

5594) at least two weeks in advance so we

can coordinate your musical selection(s) with-

in the service and provide accompaniment for

you, if needed. (A special word of encourage-

ment to our youth: we’d love to have you

participate in worship in this special way!)

Ladies Group.....

We will meet on Wednesday, June 7, at 9:00 A.M. at Aunt Emmy's (formerly the Coffee Den). Please join us for great food, drinks, and conversation. Call Vicki Freiburger at 920-8896 with questions.

Seeking a Heaven Bound Youth Leader

Following the Youth Mission Trip to Michigan this summer, Dawn Askeland will be stepping down as the leader of Heaven Bound Youth Group. There-fore, we will be searching for a new adult leader to begin in the fall. We owe Dawn a huge THANK YOU for all she has done!

Sign-up for Lay Ministry Serving Duties

Sign-up sheets are located in the back of the sanctuary for the upcoming months, listing all weeks/services/duties that need to be covered for worship to take place.

If possible, please consider signing up for a certain job for an entire month; if that is not possible, please don’t hesitate to sign-up to assist for whatever weeks you are available.

Please also continue to check the ‘Serving This Weekend’ and ‘Serving Next Weekend’ boards. Your willingness to assist in our worship services is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
