Province of Ontario – Religious services Update regarding the move to step-three

of the gradually lifting COVID-19 restrictions

On March 9, 2022, the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health announced effective Monday, March 21, 2022, the end of public masking requirements except in select settings such as public transit, health care settings, long-term care homes and congregate care settings. As such, our churches, halls and offices will also no longer require masking starting on March 21, 2022.

The Archbishop is extending the dispensation from attending Mass in person on Sunday until the vigil Mass for Palm Sunday, April 9th, in time for the Holy Week liturgies. Beginning on Palm Sunday, parishioners are invited once again to attend Mass in person unless for reasons of health they cannot do so at this time. The Archbishop reminds all Catholics that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass does not apply if for health reasons you cannot attend Mass in person.

As of March 21st Divine Infant Parish will be fully open:

Indoor mask use is no longer required. Parishioners who wish to wear a mask or shield may do so.

Congregational singing is permitted.

Holy Communion may be received on the tongue. For parishioners who wish to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, please be at the end of the communion line receiving communion from only a priest or a deacon.

Holy water fonts are now reinstalled and ready to use. Please bring your own small containers to fill from the main font next to the vestry. If you wish a large volume of Holy water, please fill your containers at home and bring them to the church to have a priest or deacon bless them following Mass.

Prayer books, hymnals, magazines, and bulletins are now in the church and in the foyer. Starting Sunday, March 20th, books can be loaned from the library following the 8:00am and 10:00am Sunday Masses.

Please note that only a small number of bulletins will be printed and available for parishioners who do not have access to the online version on our parish website.

Dispensation from attending Sunday Mass in person is ending on Palm Sunday unless for reasons of health. At the same time the church will be fully open to the parishioners with no physical distancing section in the church.

Our parish will continue to livestream liturgies until the end of Holy Week (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday at 10am). Beginning on Easter Monday (April 18) our live streamed liturgies will be discontinued. Parishioners are encouraged to continue self-screening for Covid-19 symptoms and stay home if they have any symptoms. Every attempt will be made to maintain a clean and tidy church with sanitizers at the entrances of the church.

In Christ,

Fr. Waldemar Podlasz SDS

Pastor

Dear Friends in Christ,

This week, all the statues and crucifixes are vailed. This custom has been long established and

always inaugurates us into the time of immediate preparation and liturgical celebrations of Palm

Sunday, Holy Week and Easter Triduum.

The fifth Sunday in Lent, called traditionally “Passion Sunday” (Dominica Passionis) since the

ninth century, occurs two weeks before Easter and inaugurates Passion-

tide, the final particularly solemn preparations for the great feast. As a

liturgical season, Passiontide is older than Lent, having been established

by the Church as a period of fasting as early as the third century. During

the first four weeks of Lent the spirit of personal penance prevailed, but

these last fourteen days were devoted entirely to the meditation of Christ’

Passion.

On the eve of Passion Sunday the crucifixes, statues, and pictures in the

churches are draped in purple cloth as a sign of mourning. This custom

originated in Rome, where in ancient times the images of the papal chapel

in the Vatican used to be shrouded when the deacon sang the concluding words of the Sunday

Gospel, “Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple” (John 8: 59). The liturgical services of

Passiontide are based on what happened to our Lord during the last days before His death, lead-

ing up to the mysteries of the Passion. (Mystery, in this connection, is the religious term for any

episode of Christ’s life related in the Gospels.) The Mass texts are dominated by the thought of

the Just One, persecuted by His enemies, as He approaches the supreme sacrifice on Golgotha.

“There is no evil to be faced that Christ does not face with us. There is no enemy that

Christ has not already conquered. There is no cross to bear that Christ has not already

borne for us, and does not now bear with us.

And on the far side of every cross we find the newness of life in the Holy Spirit, that new

life which will reach its fulfillment in the resurrection. This is our faith. This is our witness

before the world.”

John Paul II

SPECIAL INVITATION

Dear Friends, once again I’d like to invite you to join me in celebration

of solemn Mass, on the occasion of the canonical visitation of the

members of our Canadian Region of Salvatorian Fathers. The Mass will

be celebrated at 12pm this Sunday (April 3). As well, a special blessing,

with the relics of Blessed Francis Jordan, founder of the Salvatorians,

will be given. Opportunity for private veneration will also be available.

In Christ,

THE BEREAVEMENT GROUP SPRING PROGRAM

This Solidarity Sunday, Development and Peace’s People and

Planet First campaign invites you to give from the heart and

thanks you warmly for your generosity. Your donation trans-

forms the lives of some of our most

vulnerable sisters and brothers across

the world.

In Cambodia, for instance, your solidar-

ity helped our partner DPA establish a

community fishery in Srey Packly’s

village. She said, “Thank you very

much to DPA and to the donors for sup-

porting my family and fellow villagers

to have fresh and healthy fish to eat and

to improve our livelihoods.” Such is

the difference you can make by giving

to your Share Lent parish collection or

at devp.org/give.

Thank you for helping us build a world of justice.Read more about these people’s victories in our Mini-magazine at devp.org/lent/resources.
