1st to 4th Week
-fertilization and implantation occurs-embryotic development occurs (nervous system, heart, and circulatory system)
5th Week
-first heart beats begin-umbilical cord, lungs, and brain start to develop-basic facial features, arm buds and leg buds, start to develop
6th ,7th Week
-arms, legs, nostrils, lenses of the eye, intestines and pancreas start to appear or grow-elbows, fingers, feet, ears, and nose start to appear-intestines start to form in the umbilical cord
8th Week
-cartilage and bones begin to form-eye is well under way of development-tongue begins form-intestines move toward abdomen -in males testosterone starts to be produced-about the size of a chicken egg
9th Week
-baby begins movement-most joints are formed-finger prints are evident-the baby is now a fetus
10th Week
-baby’s head is half its length-placenta begins to function-eyelids fuse shut
11th Week
-nearly all structures are formed-finger and toes are now separated-genitals now take on the proper gender characteristics-more amniotic fluid-intestinal-muscle contractions
12th Week
-vocal cords begin to form-facial features move into place-insulin in produces-intestines move further into body

-increased uterine contractions causing premature births-less maternal blood gets to the baby-lack of nutrition-cocaine crosses the placenta to the baby
