FISH CREEK FOOTBALL & NETBALL CLUB
Alberton football league Round 13 v Kor/Bena June 30th 2012 cost $1.00
As the sun warmed our small ground (and many others just like ours dotted all
over Gippsland) there was a buzz of movement like worker bees around a hive.
Making food, carrying bags, handing out jumpers, moving things, fixing things,
sweeping and dusting, just the general set up for the morning/days events.
I watched as I sipped on my, thermos made coffee, and prepared to do my part,
and just like every one, happy to do it ☺
.
Gus Staley taking an easy mark and again eluding one of the allies players. He must have
had a good game as I heard one small kid in full head gear say “im realy sick of that kid”
after Gus kicked another goal over his head. And- Jack Flanders on the wrong side of the
tackle – this time!
Out of respect to a past player and legend of the club,
arm bands were worn on the Allies game for
Peter Weidemann .Between 1960-61 Peter played 5
games for Collingwood, and looking through the football
year books, I noticed his name mentioned many times
in the best players. He played over 500 games for
the club and This Photo, from 1981 seconds league B&F.
Winner for the second time in as many years.
FOOTBALL: For a lot of years our fourths and sometimes thirds were leant a
player so a “fair” game could be played. Now it’s our time to return the favour.
And never compromising our/his own team OR the win, and showing great
sportsmanship, Barry doesn’t give them the little guys, but always hands over
our big men, our best men (in turn) to help out the undermanned opposition.
Zack Redpath escapes his opponent, Bailey folding his man in two, and a strong
chest mark by Billy rogers in the goal square.
A BIG THANK YOU FROM MICK MAC:
Pauline and the family wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Fish Creek Football Club, and the local and wider community, for the amazing farewell tribute to him. Mick would be sorry he missed it all, and would have wished to thank you all personally. (He always liked an audience).
ALL THOSE INVOLVED ARE SINCERELY THANKED.
Thank you for attending the gathering, cards, flowers, food galore, visits,
phone calls, furniture moving, public speaking, cleaning, technology things,
serving food and drinks, hugs, tears, personal chats, sounding the siren, guard
of honour, minutes of silence, setting up his chair and memorabilia, prayers,
and loving care of the whole family, are just some of the wonders experienced.
Apologies to anyone left out of this list, you must believe that you are also
gratefully thanked. You are all wonderful people and we are privileged to be
blessed by knowing you all. Xx Pauline
“MID YEAR BALL 2012”
The hall looked fantastic as we entered (great work girls) and the night started
well, tables were packed, people dressed in their finest, and the smell from the
kitchen escaping from the cracks around the door had all mouths watering. Beer
and wine got flowing, as did the dance floor, which resembled a lap pool in the
end, resulting in a few falls. The band was cranking out the tunes and all who
attended seemed to have a great night.
Thankyou to the all the cooks, bar staff, set up and clean up crews-
without you, its just an cold empty room! COURT CONVERSATIONS! It was a good day all round for us last game here, winning all games on the court,
And last week we won all but our B grade game against MDU, The C grade a real
thriller, beating the fifth position holders by 1 ☺. Today we will have some tough
games ahead, but any game is winnable, so let’s go fishy!
She maybe tiny, but Macinly O’sullivan had a great game and got plenty of air
against the allies and was first to the ball against MDU. Paris Rogers trying hard
to protect the circle!
