Fitness in focus
Welcome to 2021! I’m sure there are many of you who are glad that 2020 is over. It
has been lovely getting to know the new students and seeing the pre-schoolers in
uniform and learning how to be in ‘big school’. The children have adapted to their
new environment exceptionally well.
Unfortunately the usual face-to-face parent information night was not able to
occur this year. Instead the teachers have created videos that are available on
our website. Please continue to contact teachers by email if you have any
concerns or alternatively, make an appointment for a meeting at school.
Over the holidays there was a lot of work happening around the school and we
now have 3 beautiful classrooms on South Campus. We are still making some
minor adjustments but the teachers and students are delighted with their new
spaces. We are also investigating the re-commissioning of the pool so that our
students can have swimming lessons onsite. We will be funding this from our
School and Community funds so any contributions will be appreciated.
Despite the small outbreaks of COVID 19 that we have had this year, we are all
starting to relax a little more now that the vaccine rollout has begun. The
Department of Education still requires a COVID safe plan to be in place for
visitors to site. After a parent survey it was decided that we would continue to wear
masks at pick-up times with so many people here at the same time. Thank you to
everyone for your co-operation. Perhaps next term we will be able to leave our masks
at home.
This term Footsteps have been visiting each Wednesday to teach physical
literacy and dancing. The students have enjoyed learning the new moves and
interacting with the very engaging presenters. The teachers have been
watching closely for new ideas to introduce into our dance program when it
resumes in week 7. A grant from Sporting Schools has also enabled us to
employ coaches for Netball who come to school on Fridays.
The dental van is coming to school on 08.03.21 to provide free dental check ups
for students K-2. Please make sure that you have your paperwork in so that
your child can participate.
To improve communication with parents AWIS will stop using Skoolbag and
move to a new app called School Stream. When the new app is up and running
we will advise you by email.
In 2020, all schools undertook a situational analysis to identify target areas for
Improvement in the 2021-2024 school plan. At AWIS we have identified
individualised expected student growth targets as a strategy to improve student
outcomes and data tracking. The draft of the new plan will be available for
consultation towards the end of term and will be communicated via email.
