How Reading Fluency Is Measured

DIBELS Next DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency

1. Teacher meets with student one-on-one with DIBELS materials and a timer

2. Teacher administers assessment, which take a little over two minutes for Progress Monitoring

3. Accuracy and reading rate are recorded several times a year in order to ensure student is making good progress towards the end of year goal

4. 3rd grade students should be reading 110+ words per minute by the end of the school year

The Problem: Once students have been assessed, teachers want to help disfluent readers, but they have other students with more severe reading difficulties. So what can they do?

Page 6: Fluency Presentation

The Solution: Teachers can use educational technology to help improve reading fluency with students that are at some-risk!
