Floreat Montague Park School Newsletter - Friday 15th February 2019

The Look Out The children in Reception enjoyed their trip to The Look Out Discovery Centre, where they

showed lots of curiosity as they explored the different areas and exhibits. Some of the highlights included being builders, exploring the light and colour zone, persevering in the forces zone and showing teamwork in the water zone.

Author Visit The children in Early Years showed great creativity when they had a visit from Layn Marlow, a local author, last week. The children all enjoyed a storytelling session, and joined in with the owl noises throughout the story. They then got the chance to be illustrators by drawing an owl and had to listen carefully as Layn showed them step by step how to draw the perfect owl.

In the interests of safety and security at drop-off and pick-up, all parents/carers are kindly asked to use the designated footpaths leading to the main school entrance and into the play-ground. On return from the half term break, the staff car park entrance on William Heelas Way will be kept locked between 8am-9am, and 3pm-4pm, to add additional security to the school site during these times, and minimise any risks to pedestrians. We will be working closely with Wokingham Borough Council over the coming months to ensure further safe pedestrian ac-cess to the school as we grow.

Please remember that once the bell has been rung, at 8:30am the playground gate will be closed and you should sign your children in via reception.

The LAC would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued cooperation to ensure a safe environment for your children, and wish you a pleasant half term. If you have any que-ries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Chair or Vice-Chair of Governors through the school office.

In addition, you will also have seen that closures have been fitted to the two pedestrian gates to ensure they close automatically and that the magnets engage to keep them secure.

We thank you for your understanding.

Gates and Safety

Service Learning

This term's Service Learning Project in Reception was to plan a charity sale, in preparation for our visitor from the RNLI charity. The children decided to hold a cake sale and spent the week preparing by making posters and ingredient lists and then decorating and making cakes to be sold. The sale was a huge success, with £160 being raised. We were able to present our donation to Joy from the RNLI when she visited and she taught us all about water safety and the important work of the Lifeboats. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed a cake or two and donated generously!

School Council

The School Council have been working hard over the last few weeks! A few words from the School Council:

“We have been the welcoming committee for 2 Coffee Afternoons, greeting mummies, daddies, brothers and sisters. It has been fun welcoming everybody. The best bit is handing out the bis-cuits, because we get to eat them as well!”

Rosa, Ayla, Seth – “The best bit about being in the School Council is handing out the biscuits at the Coffee Afternoons.”

Bobby, Henry – “It was fun choosing the pots for the front of school.”

Frankie, Teigan, Georgia – “We liked putting the soil into the pots.”

Stella – “I loved it in assembly when my name was called out to be in the School Council and receiving my badge.”

Grace – “I like the School Council, because it is exciting and fun. You get to do lots of things, like going to coffee meetings and getting to choose where to put plants in the school.”

We have looked at different flowers for the pots and look forward to planting them.

School Council elections will take place

next half term – the current school

council will work with our new school

council as a handover.

The Early Years team have been busy planning improvements to our learning areas in Nurse-ry and Reception. Thank you to all the adults who helped to build the new resources. We now have a range of new small world toys in the classroom, including an Inuit house, space rocket and dinosaur island. After half term, our new writing den, building site, mud kitchen and nature area will be ready for the children to enjoy outside every day. We are also looking forward to a new outdoor role play area and performance stage coming soon!

5th April 2019 - Easter Hat Parade

We invite all of the children to design and make their own Easter hat. These will be judged by the

school council and prizes will be awarded.

Parking

Please remember to be considerate of our neighbours and only park in visitor spaces on the estate.

Also, please do not park in front of the school gates. In the event that an emergency vehicle is needed

this would delay their arrival. In addition please do not park on the zig-zags or close to junctions, one

of our neighbours has reported near misses due to their vision being obstructed.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Judo Club

Time Capsule

Interserve who built the school have kindly donated a time capsule, which will be buried until 2067. David Wilson Homes are going to bury this for us and erect a plaque to commemorate the event.

Children will be helping us decide what is buried. DWH will install this during the Easter break so we will be looking for volunteers to come in school uniform and help us with this event.

Mr Olly Fricker our Judo Coach is please to announce that four pupils have achieved their

yellow judo belts, well done!

Vacancies

As you know we will again increase by

two classes in September 2019 and have

started recruitment for these posts. We

have adverts placed on several online

educational recruitment sites as well as

on our website: http://

www.floreatmontaguepark.org.uk/

Vacancies

Please highlight these roles to anyone

who would be interested in working at

our school.

As you know we came second in the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme and the Polytunnel has now

been ordered. At present we are near the bottom of the table of the Greenredeem donations; if

you have points available please logon and allocate them to the school, every little helps and will

increase or share of the £3,000. Donations are counted on the 28th February 2019 so please

donate as soon as possible, any funds received will go towards enhancing our school grounds.

End of Term

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents for their support and

commitment this half term and to wish everyone a wonderful half term break.
