Welcome Back
We are pleased to welcome Mrs Hyatt back

across the school.
Library Opening for Families
We will be opening the library up one day per week after school, 3.30
– 4pm for parents to visit with their children and enjoy a book with
them. These dates are:
11th June, 20th June, 25th June, 2nd July, 8th July and 16th July
On these dates Year 1 will be released from the main reception door
to avoid congestion.
We look forward to seeing as many families as possible.

Service Learning
Earhart class will bake a range of treats to enjoy with their parents
and special people at an afternoon tea party on Tuesday, 23rd July
(the last day of term). This is to show our gratitude for all their
support and encouragement of our learning this year.
Reception children will be showing appreciation and gratitude as they
serve their families for our next Service Learning Project. Throughout
July, they will plan and prepare a special Tea Party, including
designing invitations, making decorations and preparing food. These will
take place on Monday 15th July for Owens class and Thursday 18th
July for Da Vinci class from 2.45pm.
In Year 1 the children will take part in two Service Learning projects.
Respecting the people who serve us: As a way of thanking the people who
serve us (firefighters and the police), the children will make and
decorate biscuits to deliver to their place of work. A group of children
will go the fire station and police station to deliver the biscuits with a
message from both classes that thanks them for what they do for us.
Respecting our families: Families mean a lot of us! So we have decided
to thank you for being so kind. The teachers and children invite a
family member to come in to school and have a picnic with us that will
have been made and set up by the children. During this picnic, the
children will showcase the kites that they would have made and
hopefully there will a little breeze so they can fly them with you!
Curie – 2.30 – 3.30 Wednesday 17th July, 2019. Gandhi – 2.30 –
3.30 Friday 19th July, 2019.
Year 2 are discussing their ideas in class next week and will vote on
their Service Learning project – we will let you know their ideas next

virtue of fairness. Everyone had to help in making the bread to earn
the reward of eating it afterwards.
Pyrography
One of our members of staff has taken up pyrography as a hobby and
is currently creating a number of outdoor signs for us. We look
forward to seeing the rest soon and spotting them around school!
Governor Visit
“Today I visited FMP to have a chat about KS1 with one of the year 1
teachers. The whole team is working very hard to constantly improve on
what is being offered to the children – this includes various courses
for the teachers and the TAs. It was wonderful to hear about the new
Behaviour Chart and that teachers and children think it is a great
addition to the school. It is great to get your name in the newsletter if
you reach platinum level. Also, the Knowledge Curriculum sounds so
interesting and is a fantastic way for the children to enjoy a breadth
of education.” Dawn Clewer

Pizza Express Visit
Both Da Vinci and Owens class have enjoyed trips to Pizza Express to
continue their learning about where our food comes from and
healthy eating. This also supports learning about the virtue of
gratitude.
Science Museum Trip
Mandela class enjoyed a visit to the Science Museum in London on
Wednesday. The morning was filled with curiosity as the children
visited the different areas and exhibits. One of the highlights was
visiting the 'Exploring Space' exhibit, where the children saw rockets,
space suits, space food and even a real piece of the moon!
The children then become scientists for the afternoon as they explored
in the Wonderlab, finding out about forces, electricity, light, electricity
and maths. The trip ended with 'Flash! Bang! Wallop!' which was an
exciting show all about the chemistry of explosions and fire. A great
day was had by all!
Ice Pop Wednesdays
Just as a reminder, as the weather is improving, our school council
will sell ice pops after school each Wednesday until the end of term.
Empathy Lab Resource
Nationally teachers and parents are increasingly concerned about the
potentially empathy draining effect of social media on children and
the new pressures caused by societal divisions. To combat this, we are
delighted to announce our brand new 2019 Empathy Book Collection,
featuring picture books, powerful stories, poetry, and graphic novels,
this collection for children aged 4 -11 years will be an excellent
resource to build their empathy skills. We are pleased to announce
that FOFMP have funded this book collection for us.
Help with English
WBC are running their new Helping your child with English courses
twice this half term – in Wokingham and in Woodley, see the flyer

Forest School
Hopefully we will experience some more hot, sunny days this summer
term. Please remember to provide your child with a long sleeved cotton
top and long trousers to protect them from the risk of insect bites and
scratches. It is important to check your child that night for any ticks
and to remove them safely for more advice click on this link:
https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/removing_a_tick.html.
Mrs Smith does have a tick remover in her first aid kit and would
remove any that we noticed immediately and inform you. Trainers
can be worn instead of wellies and provide a better grip for climbing
in.
