KUHN KSW-S/RW grit washer and separating machineSediment, composed of a mixture of organic sludge, solid matter ofvarious types and mineral grit, builds up in sewer systems and grit

The KUHN KSW-S/RW grit washer and separatingmachine separates sediment into organic solid

matter and mineral grit parts, enablingseparate disposal.

The mineral grit is washed in a mannercompliant with legislation for dumpingwaste quality standards.

Due to the continuously moving grit bedthe organic content is discharged bywash water flushing and fed once again

to the clarification process.

The advanced functionality of the KUHNKSW-S/RW grit washer and separating

machine facilitates a continuous, systematicseparation of the material flow into heavy mineral

components and lighter, predominantly organic matter. Thesedimentation tank, having an optimal large-volume design, guarantees a high separation capacity, even with varying supplyvolumes and solid-matter ratios.

The KUHN KSW-S/RW grit washer and separating machine ispredominantly used for the treatment of sediment fromaerated municipal grit chambers.

Optimal industrial solutions can also be achieved bycustomising to the special KSW-T/RW construction.

This construction allows “dry” loading of bulk material, via conveyor, from silos, screw classifiers or compact

systems. Municipal as well as industrial problems can besolved perfectly.

Principles of operation For standard applications the supply flow to the machine is viapumps, air lift pumps or via a grit outlet channel. The speciallyformed inlet utilises the kinetic energy from the supply mixture(mineral grit, organic solid matter and water) flowing into thesedimentation tank to create a helical upstream rotational motion.Due to the high volume tank, the dwell time can be extended, allowing the separation of fine grained sand with a low settlingspeed.

The separated solid matter settles to the lower part of thesedimentation tank, in dependence of size and settling speed. There, the washing out of organic matter from the solid mixture takes placein the washing zone.

Due to the optimized procedure of raw water feeding and the use ofan agiator an ideally mixed grit vortex bed is produced. This leads toa rapid separation of the organic and mineral solid matter. Due to itshigher density, the mineral matter sinks faster than the organicmatter and directly reaches the extraction area of the grit dischargescrew.

The grit that has been cleaned of organic matter is dischargedautomatically (using a level sensor), by the grit discharge screw. Thedischarge screw statically dewaters and discharges into a skip or aunit for extended transport. The discharge screw is shaftless andtherefore has no lower bearing.

Note: Process water, e.g. well or industrial water, should preferablybe used as washing water.

Design (Technical features)The superior design of the KUHN KSW-S/RW grit washer andseparating machine ensures optimal results, both ecologically andeconomically, and guarantees a long-term return on yourinvestment, owing in part to the following advantages:

• Organic content reduction to ≤ 3 % loss on ignition

• Filtration efficiency of 95 % with particle size 0,2 mm

• >90% concentration of discharged grit dry substance

• Low operating costs

• Very large tank volume for highest filtration efficiency of fine and super-fine grits

• No lower bearing for the grit discharge screw

• Adjustable positioning of the inlets and outlets including the dis-charge screw

• Easy to maintain (all parts are removable and easy to access: screwed or flanged)

• Three leg supports for free standing sediment tank

• Fully comprehensive displays

• Vortex mixer machine with special bearing unit for extra supports

Organic content reduction to ≤ 3 % loss on ignition • Filtration efficiency of 95 % with particle size 0,2 mm >90% concentration of discharged grit dry substance • Low operating costs • Very large tank volume for
