Founded in 2008, Samasource is a social enterprise that connects marginalized yet talented women and youth to dignified work via the internet. Samasource has pioneered a new model of employment called Impact Sourcing, which introduces business process outsourcing as a means to reduce poverty by providing work that pays a sustainable, living wage in places with high rates of unemployment including slums and rural communities in East Africa, South Asia, and the Americas.
We have two programs to address the skills and access gap:
SCHOOLTRAINING & JOB PLACEMENTEquips low-income people with essential 21st century skills & connects graduates to digital work
SOURCEEMPLOYMENT“Impact source” data projects from major tech companies to employ marginalized individuals
OUR MODEL
Sama provides an entry point to formal work.
SAMASOURCE: EMPLOYMENTWorkers are employed at Samasource where they earn a living wage.
LONG-TERM CAREER After 3.5 years, workers average $8.15/day.
$SAMASCHOOL: TRAINING & SUPPORTWorkers are trained by Samaschool in digital literacy, soft skills, job readiness, and financial literacy.
WORK EXPERIENCEA formal job allows workers to develop skills, professionalism, and build their CVs.
POVERTYOn average, people earn $2.20/day prior to joining Sama. The poverty line is $3.55.
