FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). On such an important occasion for us as Catholic Christians, it seems most appropri-ate to speak briefly about Holy Communion.
As stated in guidelines from the United States Catholic Conference for the reception of Com-munion, “In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour.” Water and medicine are always permissible; however, gum chewing and eating candy in church prior to (or while) re-ceiving Communion are inappropriate. When approaching the Priest, Deacon, or Extraordi-nary Minister of the Eucharist, the faithful should come forward with profound respect, pause and bow their head in sincere reverence, and respond “Amen” to the invocation, “The Body of Christ.” For those receiving in the hand, one hand is raised up in the “flat” position with the other hand supporting it. The Communicant waits for the Host to be placed on his/her out-stretched hand and then puts the Host in his/her mouth using the other hand. (If a Host should inadvertently fall to the floor, it needs to be consumed or given back to the minister.) The same reverence is due when receiving Communion under the form of the Precious Blood from the cup.
Catholics are obligated “to receive Communion at least once a year some time during the inter-val between the First Sunday of Lent and Trinity Sunday. Since Christ is fully present under each form of the Eucharist (that is, both the consecrated Bread and Wine), it is sufficient to receive Him under the species (form) of bread or wine alone. However, the ‘sign of commun-ion is more complete when given under both kinds, since in that form the sign of the Eucharis-tic meal appears more clearly’ (CCC, no. 1390).” [United States Catholic Catechism for
Adults, pg. 222]
In this joyful feast of Corpus Christi, we give praise and thanksgiving to God for the precious gift of the Holy Eucharist. Here at our parish, we are especially blessed to have the Holy Eu-charist available for Adoration continuously, day and night, in our beautiful Eucharistic Adora-tion Chapel (located in the Welcome Center Entrance off Argyle Place). May we always re-ceive Holy Communion, and adore Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament, with a sense of deep faith and great respect. - Fr. Jim

EXPAND YOUR IMPACT ON CATHOLIC CHARITIES
DAY OF GIVING ON JUNE 8
Catholic Charities is in critical need of your help to meet its 2018 Appeal goal. With one month remaining, the Appeal is short $1.25 million of its $11 million goal. On June 8, Catho-lic Charities -- with the support of a generous anonymous do-nor -- will be matching all new Appeal gifts, dollar for dollar up to $50,000. This means a $10 contribution to the Appeal becomes $20. A $50 gift becomes $100. Just as Jesus multi-plied the loaves and fishes to feed the multitudes, this is your chance to feed and bless our neighbors in need. Consider this: The population of the eight counties of WNY is just over 1.5 million people. Last year, Catholic Charities of Buffalo served 152,919 who were suffering and vulnerable. That equates to 1 out of every 10 people! If EVERY HOUSE-HOLD in the parish would give just $5 each on June 8, we
could achieve our goal and continue our critical work to
serve those most at risk throughout the diocese!
Here’s How You Can Help:
• Make an individual contribution online on June 8 by vis-iting: www.ccwny.org/donation.
• Share Catholic Charities’ Day of Giving messages on your personal social media accounts.
• Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to support the Appeal and double their impact on June 8. We will be sharing updates on the progress of Catholic Charities' Day of Giving throughout the day on our social media and on two billboards locally.

LORD’S PRAYER—SUNG
COMMUNION REFRAIN: 950
THANKSGIVING - O LORD,
I AM NOT WORTHY ▼
- Bidding Prayers - [Leader:] That all the people of God, treasuring the book of the covenant,
[All:] …may live in peace by obeying
the Lord’s words and ordinances.
That all the peoples of earth, redeemed by the blood of the covenant,
…may reverence each other as children of the one God,
who has chosen them.
That those who have defiled themselves by espousing prejudice or racism
…may allow the blood of Christ
to purify their consciences and hearts.
That those who prepare our young people to share in the Eucharist; those who bring communion to our sick and homebound;
and those newly ordained:
…may be living signs of the presence of Christ, who is our Passover and our Peace.
That we who are graced in this Eucharist with the book of the covenant, the broken bread and the cup of blessing
…may offer our lives as a living sacrifice of praise to God, and service to all.
That by the death of Christ that redeems them, the faithful departed, especially N. ; and those departed in service of country or church:
…may receive the promised eternal inheritance.
