On Sunday, December 17th, a young man named Carson Hassildine, an 8th grader from Mattituck, who does

not attend our school, came to the rectory door with food for the poor. He had $20 and asked his grandfather to take him

to the grocery store. He thoughtfully hand-picked every item for the food pantry. The bag included cereal, canned ham, pasta, sauce, peanut butter, jelly, a loaf of bread and a

few other items. My heart was deeply touched by his sincerity and desire to feed the hungry. We all need to learn

from Carson’s example and live the corporal works of mercy. Thank you Carson for your generous and

compassionate heart.

To the parishioners who so generously took one of the 400 + gift tags from our giving tree, I am so deeply grateful. Thank you so very much for your generosity and compassion in helping those less fortunate have a happy Christmas. To the many who donated Christmas food: Acadia Center, Dr. Maria Alcasid-Escano, Foxwood Village, St. Isidore School, and the many angel parishioners who brought food to help keep our shelves constantly stocked. My deepest thanks. To those who donated money and gift cards outside of the giving tree, especially our Altar Rosary Society and RW Mulligan, I am deeply grateful. To Bob and Carol Fisher, who gave up their Sunday to help me sort and bag the gifts and make phone calls to those families receiving them, I am forever indebted. To the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, thank you for all the toys that brightened many children’s Christmas celebrations. To the organizations who adopted families (Foxwood Village, Twomey Latham, Markowitz, Fenelon and Bank and STAT Health/Urgent Care) thank you for helping us spread the Christmas joy. Last but not least, no words can express my heartfelt thanks to my volunteer staff who so feverishly worked to pack grocery bags twice a week for the needy families, thank you, thank you, thank you. God Bless each and every one of you and may the Prince of Peace reign in your hearts this Christmas and throughout 2018. ~Dianne Massiello, Parish Social Ministry.

WIECZÓR WIGILIJNY... Ks. Jan Twardowski

"Cicha Noc, święta Noc, pokój niesie ludziom wszem".

Boże Narodzenie to święto rodziny, miłości, radości. Wieczór Wigilijny, to najserdeczniejsze, najbar-dziej rodzinne, uczuciowe święto polskie. Święto, które sięga dawnych czasów i tradycji słowiańskich. Wigilja, to wieczór głębokich emocji, uroczystego spokoju, wesela i niebiańskiej harmonii - jakby chór aniołów byl z nami i przygrywał Nowonarodzonemu Dzieciątku.

Page 5: FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT – DECEMBER 24, 2017 ST. …saintisidoreriverhead.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/... · 2017-12-20 · 7:00 am + John Mazzeo (A) / + Patryk Rus WEDNESDAY,

Here we are, Christmas has come…or if you are reading this on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, almost come. Today marks a rare occasion where we celebrate only 15 hours of this Fourth week of Advent and then mark Christmas. None-the-less, our Scriptural readings all tie in together proclaiming that we have an awe-some God who KEPT HIS PROMISE to His people in and through His beloved Son Jesus Christ. From the time God spoke Abraham, Jacob , Isaac, Moses, Samuel, David, Isaiah and the prophets; He said that despite your sinfulness and your ignorance I will never forget you and I will be your light to guide you. You and your “house descendants will live forever”.

In the last several days I had the privilege of speaking to a lot of people, I could not help but notice the darkness that many people face in their lives, whether it is with the death of a loved one, an illness in the fami-ly, a job loss, an addiction, being exiled from a beloved organization, pride, selfishness broken relationships or any sin that gnaws at one’s soul. The thought that came to me was that despite the darkness we face, this sea-son reminds us that no matter what is happening in our lives, Christ is with us. He is the light that comes right into our midst and says take my hand and I will lead you through. He is Jesus, Emmanuel, which means God is with us.

God came into the world as a tiny vulnerable baby facing great hardships. We have great challenges and hardships today and guess what... God still shows up. Only now, God knows our experience because God has walked in our shoes in and through Jesus. The birth of Jesus shows us that God is never far away.

When you have an opportunity during the Christmas season, go into a dark room and turn on a small flashlight. You will see how even a little bit of light will shatter the greatest amount of darkness. Take time to notice that as the days have grown shorter, the Christmas lights around our homes grow stronger. That is Jesus for us today. He is the light of Bethlehem that is with us right now that no amount of darkness can ever over-come. He is the light that shows us the way that overcomes the darkness of sin and the darkness in our world. We need to open our hearts to that light and be that light for one another.

The best gift we can give ourselves this Christmas is being a light for others. Who in my life is living in dark-ness? How can I be a light for them? It may be through a phone call, a listening ear, a prayer, a card, a visit, a sincere gift. The more we bring the light of Christ to others, the more God becomes visible in you and me and Riverhead and the world becomes like the Starlight over the little town of Bethlehem leading all to glory!

Fr. Piotr, our Staff and I wish you and your families and all the guests visiting us during this Holy Season a very blessed and Merry Christmas. May the light of Christ always glow in your hearts and may He help you to be a light for all who come into your midst.

May God bless you and Mary keep you and your families always. May we remember to always live our lives for the greater glory of God. St. Isidore, pray for us!

Fr. Robert Kuznik
