  • A message from our Executive Director . . .

The term healthy lifestyle is a buzzword these days. We read it and hear i

    t everywhere in the media,

and it sounds good. But what exactly is a healthy lifestyle?

It depends who you ask. A healthy lifestyle to one person might mean running five miles each

    day after

work. To another, it could mean eating more fruits and vegetables on a regular basis.

Healthy lifestyle definitely has a broad definition that is open to interpretation.

While deciding to live healthy is easy, doing it on a daily basis is much more difficult. But it doesnt

    have to be.

Regular exercise is the centerpiece to staying fit and healthy. It provides an array of important h

    ealth benefits

like weight control and disease prevention but it also makes you feel good. Physical activity

    creates greater

energy and stamina; its a great stress-reducer and that, in itself, leads to a better quality of life.

Promoting healthy lifestyles and providing recreational opportunities to pursue an active life

    are central to

the Fox Valley Park Districts mission. This is Where Fun Begins, and we offer hundreds of pr

    ograms every

season designed to get our community members energized and engaged.

From our fitness centers and active programming to outdoor amenities that include 159 park

s and 44 miles of regional trails, were intent

on giving our residents every reason to live life to the fullest.

Switching to a healthier lifestyle doesnt need to happen in a day. If you have kids, it can be a

team effort. Parents who lead a healthy

lifestyle are planting the seeds for their kids to go on to healthy lives. With childhood obesity

    reaching epidemic proportions, leading by

example is more important than ever, and so is getting your kids involved in learning to live w

ell, eat better and deal with stress by exercising

and enjoying life.So make time for yourself. Get active, and yo

ull enjoy your free time that much more. People who make time in their schedules to relax

and unwind enjoy better mental and emotional stability. Stress relievers such as sleeping well

and enjoying time with friends add to your

happiness.Make it your lifestyle. Make it healthy, and you

    ll be happy!

nancy mcCaul, CprpFox Valley Park District Executive Director

Our MissionEnrich our community with fun,

most prestigious honor in the parks and recreation profession, winning the 2009 national gold

medal award for excellence in park and recreation

management as presented by the american academy for park and recreation administration and the national recreation

    and park association.

the fox valley park District has been recognized as an Illinois association of park Districts

and Illinois park and recreation association Distinguished

The Fox Valley Park District is taking a leading role in the battle against childhood obesity. Teaching children the importance of exercise and nutrition provides them a solid foundation for a healthy future. The District is a part of the partnership group that developed the strategic action principles that guide the Making Kane County Fit for Kids campaign. Those principles were used to develop the Fit Kids 2020 Plan that provides guidelines, strategies and action steps to put children on the path toward healthy living. The plan also includes initiatives and ideas that communities and residents can employ together to create an environment where children learn to make smart lifestyle choices that are beneficial toward their long-term health and well-being. tennisWhats that racket?

    For Youth

What is Quickstart tennis?Quickstart tennis is a new format to help children 10 and under learn and play the game of tennis. Balls are lower in compression so they bounce lower and dont move as fast making them easier to hit. this allows kids time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. rackets are sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover. full-sized courts can be reconfigured to accommodate up to six 36-foot courts so kids can spend their time playing instead of waiting in line.
