Favorable construction pricing allowed the District to complete all of the initially identified projects. Remaining funds were used to address other major capital needs in the District. The Board previously approved the concept of utilizing the Facilities Committee prioritized list of major capital projects as its primary guide in determining uses of remaining bond issue funds. The Board previously approved the use of $2 million of bond issue funds for design and construction of additional electric service at Becky-David, Castlio and Fairmount Elementary Schools, and Barnwell and Hollenbeck Middle Schools and the renovation of the HVAC system at Hollenbeck Middle School. The Administration recommended that the remaining $500,000 in bond issue funds be used for renovations to the band practice field and baseball fields at Francis Howell North High School. The Board asked that a master plan for FHN be completed prior to approval of the renovations. ANALYSIS The District engaged Hoener Associates to develop a master plan for FHN, including the location of a new auditorium. Once it was determined that placement of the new auditorium would not impact the planned renovations to the fields at FHN, the Director of Operations and Facilities met with the principal, activities director, coaches and parents of FHN to develop a phased plan for the field renovations. The Administration is now seeking approval to proceed with the field renovations at FHN to be funded with remaining bond issue funds. RECOMMENDATION The Administration recommends approval of Phase I renovations to the fields at Francis Howell North High School, as shown in the accompanying drawing, with an estimated cost of $500,000.
