Opportunities for Freshmen

Run for the Undergraduate Council (UC). If you would like to be eligible to run for the UC, you must attend one of two mandatory informational meetings: Sunday, September 7, 7PM, in Ticknor Lounge,

Boylston Hall; or Tuesday, September 9, 7PM, in Fong Auditorium, Boylston Hall. We will also have a Campaign Tips and Strategies meeting on Wednesday, September 10, 7PM in Fong Auditorium.

Get Involved with PRE. The Institute of Politics (IOP) is thrilled to announce a new initiative for fall 2014: the Politics of Race and Ethnicity (PRE) initiative will focus on highlighting and discussing the intersection of race, ethnicity, and poli-tics. PRE is designed to create a space for a sustained, nuanced, and inclusive dialogue. Program members will meet once a week for sessions including guest speakers, panels, group discussions, and collaborations with other clubs and IOP programs. How to get involved: you can apply to join PRE through the IOP common application. The application is now live at bit.ly/applyiop. You can also drop by the IOP open house on Monday, September 8, 6:30PM, at 79 JFK St. to chat with the initiative chairs, Osaremen Okolo ([email protected]) or Valentina Perez ([email protected]).

Register for a Dance Class. The Office for the Arts offers a variety of not-for-credit dance classes, including contemporary, ballet, and more. Course registration runs Tuesday, September 9 & Wednesday, September 10, 1-5PM,

Volunteer with PBHA's Mission Hill After-School Program. This is the oldest and largest after-school program in the Boston area. We work with kids ranging in ages 5 to 13 and have a really fun time doing it! No previous experience needed. Applications are due Friday, September 12. Join Harvard Taekwondo! Learn self-defense, get back in shape, and kick off this semester right with free bubble tea at our introductory practice. REACH Children with Special Needs. REACH is a year-long mentoring program for children with special needs, meeting at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School (about a five-minute walk from Annenberg) most Saturdays 1-3PM. Each Harvard student—a “big buddy”—is paired with a “little buddy.” Sessions involve a mix of arts and crafts, recreational gym activities, and Harvard student group performances.
