BOEING delivered 64 aircraft (40 737s; four 747s; four 767s; nine 777s; seven 787s) in May vs 49 (36 737s; three 747s; two 767s; eight 777s) in May 2012. It has now delivered 245 (179 737s; 10 747s; nine 767s; 39 777s; eight 787s) of 635-645 planned in 2013. AIRBUS delivered 45 aircraft (36 A320 Family; seven A330s; two A380s) in May vs 45 (34 A320 Family; eight A330s; three A380s) in May 2012. It has now delivered 247 (195 A320 Family; 46 A330s; six A380s) of the planned 600-610 aircraft in 2013. AIRBUS powered-up Trent engines on fi rst A350 XWB, and appointed fl ight crew for fi rst fl ight, which is expected very shortly.

PRATT & WHITNEY made fi rst fl ight of PW1100-JM (for A320neo) on its 747SP fl ying test bed at Mirabel; EIS is planned 4Q15.

BOEING began fi nal assembly of fi rst 787-9. It is building the fi rst three 787-9s on a Temporary Surge Line in Everett as it continues to ramp up production across the 787 program. It has orders for 355 -9s for fi rst delivery in early 2014 to Air New Zealand (ordered 10).

LOAR GROUP acquired AGC, CT (jet engine precision components) in deal arranged by Alderman & Company Capital.

MB AEROSPACE, UK has acquired DELTA INDUSTRIES, CT (jet engine components), which had >$60m revenues in 2012.

HEICO FLIGHT SUPPORT GROUP, FL completed acquisition of REINHOLD INDUSTRIES, CA (custom composite components).

SELIMA PARTNERS, FL acquired Orlando-based component test business unit from TEKTRONIX COMPONENT SOLUTIONS, and formed PRECISION TEST SOLUTIONS to provide third party testing for military, space and commercial aviation markets.

TRANSDIGM GROUP completed successful cash tender offer to acquire AEROSONIC to leverage its air data/display technologies; and completed previously announced acquisition of ARKWIN INDUSTRIES, NY (hydraulic/fuel system components) for $286m.

BOEING is establishing engineering design centers in Washington, South Carolina and Southern California (considering another in Kiev), and a propulsion operation in South Carolina; it is also consolidating out-of-production aircraft support to Long Beach, CA.

AVIC LEIHUA ROCKWELL COLLINS opened in Wuxi, China to develop/manufacture surveillance system products for C919.

AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERS has contract from Austral Aviation, Kenya to convert one MD-83HGW to 12-pallet freighter at COMMERCIAL JET, Miami starting in August 2013; deal includes two options. ANCRA INTL will supply the cargo loading system.

LUFTHANSA TECHNIK GROUP has Pegasus Airlines contract to perform C-Checks on three 737NGs at LUFTHANSA TECHNIK BULGARIA. It is also celebrating 10-year anniversary of startup of LUFTHANSA TECHNIK MALTA, now with >600 employees.

AMECO BEIJING completed cabin upgrade on 10 777-200s for Air China, which included 3-class reconfi guration with new IFE.

PEMCO WORLD AIR SERVICES plans by end of June to deliver fi fth/fi nal converted 737-300/400F to Shenzhen-based SF Express.

DIRECT MAINTENANCE received EASA Part-145 approval for its line maintenance stations at Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro.

SR TECHNICS and AIGLE AZUR are forming joint venture to provide A320 and A330 line/light maintenance out of Paris-Orly.

ATR received EASA certifi cation to take-off and land -600 Series aircraft in temperatures as low as -45ºC.

TITEFLEX AEROSPACE, NH has Boeing contact to supply AS1975 and AS4570 fl uid-transfer hose/tube assemblies for 777s.

DESSO was selected to supply its Wilton woven carpet (with self-adhesive backing) for fi rst four of eight 787s for Thomson Airways.

FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL booked order from Wisesoft, China for a second A320 full fl ight simulator for installation at SafetyWing Aviation Training, Chengdu to support Tibet Airlines. FSI has to date delivered >130 total commercial aircraft simulators.

CAE opened second full-fl ight simulator spares depot in China at Pudong Airport in Shanghai. It operates similar facility in Zhuhai.

IATA upgraded its 2013 airline industry profit forecast to $12.7b (on $711b revenues) from $10.6b, making it the third strongest year since 9/11, although it says margins continue to remain weak at projected 1.8%. It says on average airlines will earn $4 per pax.

AMR received Bankruptcy Court approval to present its restructuring plan (merger with US AIRWAYS) to creditors for vote; it expects Plan of Reorganization to become effective in 3Q13 following US Airways shareholder approval, which is expected on July 12.

AIR NEW ZEALAND agreed to acquire another 3% of VIRGIN AUSTRALIA, pending govt approvals; it would then own 22.99%.

SHUN TAK HOLDINGS acquired 33% equity stake in JETSTAR HONG KONG from China Eastern Airlines and Qantas for US$66m.

PEOPLEXPRESS AIRLINES acquired FAA-certified XTRA AIRWAYS, ID (five 737-400s) to launch its own operations in eastern US.

AMERICAN closed private placement of $119.8m Class C EETCs secured by eight 737NGs and five 777s (SPNWS; May 31).

ALASKA AIRLINES reached tentative agreement with its 1,480 ALPA-represented pilots on new 5-year contract.

AEROMEXICO reached new labor agreement with its flight attendants union that it says will improve productivity and drive growth.

VOLARIS, Mexico is planning US$100m IPO in US; it currently operates 44 A320 Family aircraft and has 48 more on order.

DELTA AIR LINES is closing its (former Northwest Airlines) hub at Memphis, dropping service to about 60 daily flights from 300 in 2008; it cited rising fuel costs and heavy operation of costly 50-seat regional jets. It is cutting about 230 jobs from about September 3.

IATA endorsed resolution on carbon-neutral growth that provides governments with set of principles on how they can establish procedures for single market-based measure and integrate single MBM as part of overall package of measures to achieve CNG2020.

SURF AIR, CA received FAA operating certificate to provide all-you-can-fly membership-based air services (initially between Los Angeles and San Francisco) starting June 12 using Pilatus PC-12 with BMW-designed interior; it later plans to add new routes.

ECLIPSE AEROSPACE received type certification from South Africa for Eclipse 550; first aircraft were exported for sale via NATIONAL AIRWAYS CORP, which announced that SIMCOM TRAINING CENTERS, FL was also approved by South African CAA for training.

ROBINSON HELICOPTER received type certification from Canada for R66; 26 are expected to be registered in Canada by end 2013.

FLIGHTSAFETY INTL broke ground on expansion of its Teterboro business jet training facility to increase floorspace by 50% by ‘14.

WESTERN AIRCRAFT (Greenwich AeroGroup) broke ground on 26,000 sq ft expansion to its MRO facility on 18 acres at Boise, ID.

DALLAS AIRMOTIVE announced that its F1RST SUPPORT global field service organization removed first BR710 under Mobile Repair Support (MRS) services agreement with Rolls-Royce; work was completed at Bombardier’s Service Center in Dallas ,TX.
