THE RESEARCH SAYS… 79.1% of women between the ages of 25-54 are currently

in the workforce (The Bureau of Labor & Statistics). The Bureau of Labor & Statistics reported that 59.2% of

married women (spouse present) are currently employed, while 59.8% of women who were never married are currently employed.

According to NationMaster.com the average age for a women’s first child birth in the U.S. is 24.9 years old.

Medical News Today states, “Of the 14 countries reviewed in the report, U.S. women had the lowest age at first birth in both years studied -- 21.4 years old in 1970 and 25 years old in 2006.

THE NEW YORK TIMES IN MAY 1982 WASHINGTON, May 27— The number of well-educated

American women having their first child during their 30's rose dramatically in the 1970's. The rise was due in part to the desire of increasing numbers of women to complete their education and establish their careers before beginning a family. These findings were reported today in a study conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, an arm of the Department of Health and Human Services. The study, based on information from birth certificates, showed that the number of first births to women in their 30's more than doubled during the 1970's, increasing from 54,108 in 1970 to more than 115,000 in 1979.

Is History repeating itself?

FACEBOOK FEEDBACK College before marriage and kids! I did it the other way

around.

I'm afraid my mother wasn't very well versed when it comes to the business world. However, if were to mentor a young woman today, I would advise her of the following: 1. Focus your energies while you are in college in science, technology and math related subjects if you can. 2. Find out what really sparks your motivation and target your career 3. Get an advance degree and/or post graduate certifications 4. Most importantly, never underestimate the power of relationships.

CONTINUED… My mother did not enter the workforce until very late

in life, nor did she attend college so…. My desire to attend college and to succeed in a career was quite foreign to her. Women in the workforce for most of her life were unheard of and if women did work it was as an administrator, teacher, nurse, etc. My parents always stated "do the best you can at whatever you do and you will be rewarded".

My mother was adamant about being able to take care of myself…getting a good education and knowing how to live and function independently.
