Fasting from Social Media

As part of our 21 Days of Consecration, we are fasting from social media. Social media is not bad in and of itself; it is rather the way it is used that makes it good or bad.

One of the reasons we are fasting from social media for a time is because statistics show that people spend at least 2.5 hours per day on social media. During this time of consecration, we want to focus in on God, and take time for self-examination, study of God’s Word and the other disciplines included in our consecration fast. Our Pastors have shared with us that we are fasting for a cause – we can use the time we would have spent on social media connecting with God in prayer, and connecting with our families.

Additionally, social media, while it can be used for good, is notorious for spreading negative and ungodly images, messaging, videos and more. During our 21 Days of Consecration we really want to focus on things that are positive, uplifting and godly.

We are asking everyone participating in the fast, both adults and youth, to refrain from using social media that is not related to work, schoolwork or church for seven days – from Sunday, January 5th at 6:00 pm to Sunday, January 12th at 6:00 am.

Prayer Prayer is the Christian's spiritual lifeline! As Christians, we are called to be a spiritual force and make things happen for God's Kingdom. When we employ both prayer and fasting, we will grow stronger in spirit - so that we can do what God is calling us to do! Mark 9:29 says, ...This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. When we pray and fast, we can make a Kingdom impact!

HOW OFTEN TO PRAY: Every day.

POSTURE OF PRAYER: It's good to kneel for prayer if you are able (showing humility and reverence for God). If you are unable to kneel, you can pray while sitting or standing. You may also start off kneeling, but end up standing or walking around. HOW TO PRAY Overall, look at God as your Father. Talk to Him and just share your heart. Here is a pattern you can follow to help you as you pray. It's easy to remember - the acronym is P-R-A-Y!

Mark 11:22-24 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
