OLT – Optical Line Terminal – Central Office equipment. ONT – Optical Network Terminal for individual customer

premises. ONU – Optical Network Unit – for cluster of customers served

by copper as the last mile. USP – Un Split / Partial split.

Legend

GPON - Calculation Assume 1:32 split ratio To achieve 100 Mbps per customer, only 25 customer are

connected per PON For 1 PON download speed 2.5 Gbps = 2500 Mbps For 1 Customer download speed = 2500 Mbps / 25 = 100

Mbps

Residential CustomerCommercial Customer1 2 For residential customer 100 Mbps is the

maximum available bandwidth. For commercial customer the requirement

granularity cannot be decided during the survey stage as every commercial customer will have specific requirement.

To have clear understanding and to serve 1:X GPON and UnSPlit GPON, we have to understand the customer requirement in IT, telecom, application and capacity level.

To plan and address the general requirement, we have to assume every individual customer is connected or ready to connect via patch cord installation during provisioning.

Building where there is any integral number of customer for GPON connection.

Divide by 32 to get the number of 1:32 splitters

The remaining GPON connection to be distributed among 1:16 and 1:8 splitter accordingly.

For the expansion in the building side GPON connection, required splitter combination to be equipped in CO and MTR.

Number of living units (individual customer) who will be identified with single invoice for all telecom service from the service provider point of view has to be confirmed.

The classification of the above data as shown in table under “Number of living units:” and the business model with marketing strategy has to confirm the FACTOR for various commercial and split ratio requirement.

The fiber has to land in each living units (individual customer) and the flexibility to connected in different configuration as shown in the illustration.

The number of fiber required to enter a MTR can be calculated with cable count planning equation.
