Starting Monday, January 3, 2011, your garbage,

recycling and yard trimmings collection services will

be easier and more convenient than ever before.

Weekly PickUp Starting January 3, 2011: All of these new services will be provided to you on a weekly basis, the same day as your garbage collection day. You wont have to remember whether its your week for recycling or not every week will be recycling week!

As part of these new services provided by your new collection services company, Recology San Mateo County will be delivering three new wheeled carts to each home:

Green Compost Cart* (96Gallon) for food scraps and yard trimmings

Blue Recycle Cart (64Gallon) for all recyclables

Black Garbage Cart for anything that you cant recycle or compost*Hillsborough residents will continue to use their existing green Yard Trimmings Carts and will only receive new Recycle and Garbage Carts.

Yard Trimmings and Food Scraps: You can place all your food scraps and food and beverage soiled paper products in with your yard trimmings for composting.

Recycling: With the new CartSMART program - you can conveniently place all your recyclables into one wheeled cart no more sorting! You will also be able to recycle more due to the size of the new cart and the additional materials that can be recycled in the new CartSMART program.

Garbage: With the new CartSMART program, a new Garbage Cart will be provided to you.

Garbage Cart Sizes

the new CartSMart services will be provided using collection vehicles that use a mechanical arm to lift the carts, making service more efficient. these vehicles are able to accommodate four cart sizes: 20, 32, 64 and 96-gallon.

You have been assigned a new Garbage Cart size based on your current level of garbage service. If you wish to change the size of the Garbage Cart that will be delivered to your home, you must respond by July 9, 2010.

Please refer to the chart below to determine your assigned Garbage Cart size. Cart sizes have been assigned based on most common usage in each category. For example, if your current service level is 45 gallons, you will receive a 32-gallon Garbage Cart under the new program, unless you select a different size.

Carts will be delivered between August 30, 2010 and December 18, 2010. More information on how to use your carts and what to do with your old containers will be provided in the summer issue of the rethinker newsletter mailed in July, and with your new carts. You will have the option to exchange the size of your Recycle or Compost Cart after February 15, 2011.

By using the new, convenient and expanded CartSMART services, you can recycle more and more often. Remember, the size of your Garbage Cart determines how much you pay for all of your services. The more garbage you have, the more you pay. The more you can recycle and compost, the more you can save!
