The $10,898,313 contract was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor Inc., Snellville, Ga., and is funded by the state. It involves I-285/SR- 407 at Ashford Dunwoody Road (CR 1764), extending to Chamblee-Tucker Road. It also includes bridge decking and joint seals. According to Mark D. McKinnon, Atlanta regional media coordinator of Georgia DOT, notice to proceed was given on May 24, 2011, but the contractor did not begin work until July 7. He noted that DOT project per- sonnel includes eight people. The contractor also will have a milling crew with six people and an asphalt paving crew with 11 people and 24 dump truck operators to start. Work will be completed on one lane first. “The project is unique in the fact that it involves micro-milling of one-and-one-quarter inches of asphalt to provide a texture suitable for use as a temporary riding sur- face or immediate overlay,” McKinnon said. “This surface can be left unpaved for one day. This will require micro milling 521,500 square yards onthe interstate roadway, milling of 130,394 square yards oninterstate ramps, and 36,000 tons of asphalt.”The major subcontractor is the Miller Group of Morrow,

Ga. It is currently working on 11 GDOT projects in Bryan,Chatham, Fulton, Richmond, Glynn, Baldwin, DeKalb,Wilkinson and Berrien counties. These projects all consist ofasphalt milling and resurfacing. It also recently completed amicro-milling project in Troup County.

The Water Supply Actcomplements the conservation bill we passed last yearand puts Georgia on the path to ensuring we can main-tain the water resources needed to keep up with a rap-idly growing state.”

Tolleson was elected to the Georgia Senate in2002, where he has served nine years representingGeorgia’s 20th District.He serves as the chairman of the Natural

Resources and Environment committee, serves as amember of the Rules, Appropriations andTransportation committees and is an ex-officio mem-ber of the Regulated Industries committee. He is afinancial advisor for UBS Paine Webber in Macon,Ga. Tolleson and Lowell Shepley are the foundingpartners of the Shepley Tolleson Financial Group.Tolleson was a founder of Crossroads Bank of

Caterpillar’s first-ever on-highway truckmodel rolled onto the showroom floor atYancey Bros. Co.’s Austell, Ga., headquar-

ters on July 22. Contractors and trucking firm rep-resentatives turned out in droves with approxi-mately 300 attending the preview of the new CatCT660 which was held in conjunction withYancey’s customer appreciation cookout.

Designed with the truck operator in mind, thecab construction of the Cat CT660 vocationaltruck is the result of customer input and years ofCaterpillar research. The customizable chassis pro-vides more than 20 different vocational configura-tions including dump, refuse, hauler and mixerbody types.

Kevin Newsome of Newsome Trucking Inc.,Ball Ground, Ga., gave high marks for the newCAT vocational trucks.

“Overall, I really liked it. I like the cab design, itwas very comfortable. The frame seemed extreme-ly durable. It’s just an all around good lookingtruck. Was very happy with it and I can’t wait toget to drive one of them. I think this is somethingthat I want to consider for a future purchase.”

Gary Horton of Horton’s Inc., Newnan, Ga. alsowas quite impressed with the CT660.

“It’s a good-looking truck. I love the groundclearance and the options on it. I think it will fit myapplications and I’m very serious about purchasingone. Yancey has given me great support in the paston my Caterpillar equipment and I’m confidentthey’ll do the same for the truck line.”
