Edison State’s transfer degrees are your gateway to over 250 bachelor’s degrees at Ohio’s public and private universities, as well as colleges nationwide! Take classes at Edison State for 2 years and transfer to a 4-year university to complete the last 2 years of a bachelor’s degree.

Our small class sizes, which average twenty students, and affordable tuition make it easy to launch your bachelor’s degree close to home. We work closely with 4-year universities to keep programs up-to-date and transferable. Edison State’s strong articulation agreements with 4-year colleges and universities ensure courses you take at Edison State will transfer.

Business Career Pathways

Accounting (a.a.b.) prepares students for compiling and analyzing business transactions and preparing financial reports, such as financial statements, cost studies and tax reports.*

Agriculture (a.a.s.) covers a broad spectrum of agriculture, life sciences, technology, and business to prepare individuals to work in many areas of the agriculture industry. Upon completion, individuals may return to the family farm, operate small businesses, join the agriculture workforce, or transfer to a four-year university to continue higher education.

Banking (a.a.b.) is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in career paths that align with their particular interests and abilities in the field of banking. In addition to banking industry specific technical skills, students will learn about customer service, marketing, sales fundamentals, finance, planning, problem solving, communication, accounting and business.

Business Management (a.a.b.) includes case studies, group projects and a possible real-world experience. Students are able to develop and apply their analytical, decision-making, problem-solving and interpersonal skills to management situations before entering the workforce. This program prepares individuals for managing a small business or for management positions in business and industry.

Entrepreneurship (a.a.b.) delivers a breadth of knowledge in several areas of business to help the entrepreneur start a business or manage an existing business effectively. Graduates acquire the skills in accounting, marketing, human resources, and management that are necessary to start a successful business.

General Business Studies (a.a.b.) offers a breadth of knowledge in several areas of the business world. This program provides students with the flexibility to explore several business disciplines and potential career paths.*

Human Resource Management (a.a.b.) allows students to gain the skills and knowledge of federal, state and local laws needed to effectively manage the employment-related issues of a company and its employees. Students also learn about how to carefully hire employees, develop compensation and benefit plans, create employee training and development programs, implement plant safety and industrial hygiene programs, and handle labor negotiations for their organization. If a student has a Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or HR Certification Institute (HRCI) certification they can receive up to 18 college credit hours. Marketing (a.a.b.) is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to enter and advance in the marketing profession. Student learning will focus upon both the theory and practice of marketing as applied to the consumer and business markets.*

Paralegal Studies (a.a.b.) is an American Bar Association-approved program for individuals interested in supporting the work of attorneys as paralegals. Students will learn both substantive and procedural aspects of the types of law practiced in Ohio, which include business, domestic, probate, litigation, and real estate. Essential skills in research, communication and writing will be developed, which will be useful when retrieving information from public records, preparing evidence for civil trials, interviewing clients, and drafting documents like contracts, wills and pleadings. This program offers classes in criminal and constitutional law, an optional internship experience, and access to its strong library of legal resources. NOTE Although paralegals assume many preparatory and drafting tasks essential to the practice of law and work under the supervision of an attorney, they are strictly prohibited from carrying out the duties considered to be the practice of law including setting legal fees, accepting cases, giving legal advice, and presenting cases in court.

Engineering and Manufacturing Career Pathways

Advanced Manufacturing Systems (a.a.s.) prepares students for milling and turning operations, CNC programming, welding, casting, metal-forming, materials technology, and heat treating processes. Advanced courses include lean systems, project management, manufacturing automation, and manufacturing costs and controls. This program culminates in a project during which students manufacture a product, from its original paper design, through all the required processes, to a final part or assembly of parts.

Automation and Robotics (a.a.s.) trains students on design, interface, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial automation systems. The program emphasizes electronics, electrical controls, motors, programmable logic controllers, servo systems, robotics, hydraulics and pneumatics, and mechanical systems.

Aviation–Professional Pilot (a.a.s.) prepares students with the required Federal Aviation Administration certificate for initial employment as aircraft pilots in a wide variety of entry-level, flight-related occupations. Such occupations may include flight instructor, banner tow pilot, jump plane pilot, corporate transportation, public service, etc. In some instances, additional specialized training will be required. Students aspiring to gain employment with airlines can elect to use their flight instructor certificate to help build flight time in an economical manner.*

Electro-Mechanical Engineering (a.a.s.) integrates electronics and electrical controls with mechanical systems so students can explore alternative trade-offs in the process of problem-solving and troubleshooting. This program focuses on design, interface, installation, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems. Students can choose additional topic areas such as manufacturing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, or alternative energy systems.

Electronics Transfer (a.a.s.) is designed for students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology at a four-year university.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) (a.a.s.) provides students with the technical knowledge and skills to size, repair, install, service and maintain the operating condition of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This program includes instruction in machine reliability and diagnostic techniques; the use of testing equipment; and the principles of mechanics, electricity and electronics as they relate to the repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Industrial Equipment Supervision (a.a.s.) engages students to learn the fundamentals of servicing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining diverse industrial equipment and automated systems. Students gain a solid foundation in metrology, mechanical parts and systems, electrical/electronic parts and systems, hydraulics/pneumatics parts and systems, basic machining practices, basic welding practices and computerized systems. Students will learn to maintain a wide range of industrial equipment through lecture, online instruction, and hands-on lab experiences in a flexible automated cell assembly unit, as well as programmable logic functions and a network communications systems.

Industrial Operations (a.a.s.) prepares students with a broad background in operations management, industrial health and safety, quality systems, statistics, management techniques, and human relations. This program option culminates in a project during which students demonstrate their breadth of industrial operations knowledge. Students may seek lean manufacturing certification or a Six Sigma green belt with projects conducted at local manufacturing facilities.

Mechanical Design (a.a.s.) allows students to obtain the basic mathematical, scientific, and engineering foundations necessary to mechanically design products for industrial, commercial, and personal applications. Advanced courses include 3-D solid modeling, engineering materials, applied engineering mechanics and strength of materials, and machine design. This program culminates in a project which students design a product, from its original concept to a final design, complete with engineering design analyses and drawings.

Operations Technology (a.a.s.) encompasses the fundamentals of operations management, industrial health and safety, quality management systems, supervision, human relations, and problem solving. Advanced courses in management, manufacturing automation, manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing and Six Sigma provide the student with the latest in operations and quality programs. This program culminates in a project during which the students demonstrate their industrial technology operations knowledge.

Mechanical Transfer (a.a.s.) is designed for students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology at a four-year university.

Medical Laboratory Technician (a.a.s.) trains students on obtaining, processing, testing and evaluating biological samples from patients, including blood and other body fluids. Test results and information gathered from laboratory tests aid physicians in making an accurate diagnosis and choosing appropriate treatments for patients. Students will become familiar with the use and maintenance of equipment used in a clinical laboratory. Intensive coursework will be completed on campus, while hands-on practice will take place at participating clinical sites. Applications must be submitted by December 31.†

Physical Therapist Assistant (a.a.s.) offers an exciting opportunity for students to put their motivational, creative problem-solving and people skills to work helping others. Under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist, physical therapist assistants work as a team to provide rehabilitative therapies to various populations, including athletes, amputees, the disabled and those recovering from an illness or injury. These therapies improve daily independence and quality of life by maximizing balance, strength, alignment, coordination, flexibility and overall mobility. Applications must be submitted by Jan. 31.† Nursing (a.a.s.) prepares students to provide direct care to persons with common short-term and long-term illnesses. Career opportunities in Registered Nursing include staff nurse in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, physicians’ offices, home health, long term care and health care settings. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) for licensure as a registered nurse. Classes are held in classrooms and laboratories, while area hospitals, community centers and nursing homes provide clinical training sites.†

• LPN/ADN Transition is an advanced placement program for Licensed Practical Nurses who want to continue their education in order to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. Applications for fall entry are accepted February 1–May 31 each year.

• Registered Nursing is for those interested in becoming a Registered Nurse. Applications for fall entry are accepted Sept. 1-Jan. 31. For spring entry, applications are accepted Mar. 1-Jul. 31.

Veterinary Technology (a.a.s.) provides training in animal husbandry, restraint, nursing, surgical preparation and assistance, drug administration, anesthesia, laboratory techniques, dentistry, and radiography. Students of the program are prepared to enter private practices, emergency hospitals, specialty offices (including but not limited to internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesiology), research facilities, diagnostic laboratories, and zoos. Veterinary technicians are required to work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. Clinical experience in various facilities, including private practices and emergency medical centers, will provide valuable on-the-job training.†

Information Technology Career Pathways

Business Systems (a.a.b.) helps graduates increase office productivity through the use of computer technology. Students learn to analyze, design and build business database systems; demonstrate the ability to program and think logically; and apply principles of management and accounting to make business decisions.*

Cybersecurity (a.a.b.) applies the skills necessary to assess computer security vulnerabilities, secure computer networks from unlawful use and criminal activity, and detect and react to intrusions. Students also gain a background in forensic evidence analysis and handling as it relates to this field, as well as the legal and ethical aspects of such work. Graduates of this program are often described as inquisitive, logical and analytical, and an asset to corporations, investigation agencies and analysis firms. This program prepares students for the examinations to earn CCNA (Network) or MCTIP:SA (Systems), CISSP (Security), CCE (Forensics) and Security+ professional certification.

Network Administration (a.a.b.) enables graduates to assist management in implementing and maintaining computer systems. This program provides the fundamental knowledge of the latest technologies in data communications and also allows students to apply Cisco course credit toward their degree.*†

Systems Administration (a.a.b.) offers a strong computer background and an overview of the workings of the organizational structure. Students who complete this degree are qualified to install, configure, manage troubleshooting, support a network operating system and install and manage network infrastructure. The program also incorporates the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification and the Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA).*†

Web Development (a.a.b.) provides students with the knowledge to code, build, analyze and maintain websites from a programming and design perspective. Students will learn to develop websites from the front-end (client-side) and back-end (server-side) to ensure that they understand all aspects of the development process. They will also be introduced to elements of graphic design, as well as responsive design for mobile devices. The latest standards of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, as well as various programming languages and concepts for the web are included.

Social and Public Services Career Pathways

Criminal Justice (a.a.s.) leads to a career as a Law Enforcement or Corrections Officer. The program is intended to serve individuals who are seeking entry-level positions, especially in local and state law enforcement agencies; juvenile and adult corrections; probation and parole; and public and private security agencies. Graduates can also transfer coursework to four-year universities. Students who wish to first take the degree requirements may enroll in the Basic Peace Officer Academy at the conclusion of the program.

Basic Peace Officer Academy Program Application The candidate must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and be 21 years old by the end of the Academy. Also, no candidate may have any felony or domestic violence convictions. All candidates must complete a short interview with a review committee before final acceptance into the academy. Students must email [email protected] or call 937-778-7861 for the Academy application materials. Applications for fall entry are accepted April 1– June 5. For spring entry, applications are accepted October 1-November 30. Academies begin in January and July.

Criminal Justice–Computer Forensics (a.a.s.) combines in-depth courses in cybersecurity with courses in criminal justice. This program prepares students to detect and investigate cybercrimes, like hacking and identity theft, as well as obtain and prepare digital evidence for prosecution purposes. Because of the nature of this type of work, students will take the training necessary to become a law enforcement officer. The hands-on nature of the coursework provides good preparation for future employment at police departments and higher-level law enforcement agencies, which will often require continuing education and training to stay current in the field.

Early Childhood Education (a.a.s.) focuses on the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and creative development of children ages birth through eight years and the planning of activities and programs that are developmentally appropriate. Since knowledge, theory, and practice are important, students are required to observe and participate in the field in almost every class. Students must sign a non-conviction statement, have a criminal background check (both Ohio and Federal), and provide three references in order to participate in field observations. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for Pre-Kindergarten Associate Teacher Certification from the Ohio Department of Education and the Child Development Associate Credential (CDA). Career opportunities include: preschool teacher, childcare provider, director/owner childcare center, home-based provider, kindergarten or primary classroom assistant, nanny. Graduates are eligible to apply for Pre-Kindergarten Associate Teacher Licensure from the Ohio Department of Education and can also transfer a portion of their coursework to four-year universities. Social Services (a.a.s.) prepares students for entry-level paraprofessional positions in social service agencies. Courses focus on the career and practice of social work, methods/skills, knowledge base, and professional values. Students receive a solid foundation in the social behavioral sciences and complete 420 clock hours of internship experience, providing practical opportunities for skill development and enhancement. While graduates will not perform the same functions as professional social workers, counselors, or therapists, they can expect to provide valuable service in diverse social service settings, empowering individuals, families, and communities. Career opportunities include: Advocate, Case Manager, Chemical Dependency Technician, Job Coach, Social Work Assistant, Family Service Worker, Residential Assistant, Mental Health Technician, Outreach Worker, and Case Aide.
