Small actions make a big difference. GTG engages students in creating & implementing a “green” transportation plan.

Get There Green engages high school students at three levels: 1. Educating students about pollution reduction related to their personal ‘green’ driving habits.

2. Creating and implementing a sustainable transportation plan for their school.

3. An introduction into the broader context of community transportation planning.

What do we want to achieve? Project goals 3. How do we get there? Action plan 4. Take action! Implementation 5. How did we do? Evaluation 6. Tell us your story! Presentation

1. Questionnaire or survey: identifies key issues, behaviors, attitudes, habits, and desires of the school community 2. Mapping: locates and identifies key resources and unique features of the built environment and

transportation facilities/routes (such as the sidewalks and roadways, crosswalks, bicycle lanes, bike parking, etc).

Small actions make a big difference. Step 2. What do we want to achieve?

1. What are the opportunities and challenges? What is the data telling you about what your school needs? Do different user groups have different needs? (i.e. parents vs.students.

2. Determine your long-term vision for your school this year? Where would you like your school to be in 5 years? Think big! 3. What is your project goal? 1. Develop your action plan, including a customized week-long clean commute event. Be sure to consider potential partners:

• School administrative team • PTA • other student groups • community organizations.

2. Submit your action plan to The Clean Air Campaign. When your action plan is complete, submit it to The

You have worked hard to create a thorough action plan to serve as your project road map! Be sure to use it throughout the project. Make sure you DOCUMENT week-long clean commute event. Useful templates for Step Four: • Implementation Template

1 Measuring the results of your project is critical to determining whether or not you’ve met your goal. What have you learned? What would you do differently? What is your definition of success?

2. Provide qualitative and quantitative data. Useful templates for Step Five: • Evaluation Template • Sample follow-up survey questions

Your presentation should include the following: 1. Definition of your transportation and air quality problem. 2. Description/rationale for your vision and goals. 3. Description of action plan, detailing the steps your team

took to educate the school community, who your target audience was, how you implemented your action plan and how you measured your results.

4. Visual representations of key messages, promotions,

including marketing materials, pictures, description of incentives.

Small actions make a big difference. The OnAir social media platform helps students market GTG and quantify results.

Using OnAir, students can:

1.Use our blog and social media channels to market their Get There Green program school-wide.

2.Measure results using the AirCreds logging tool.

3.Integrate technology into their program.

4.Use AirCreds to hold school-wide clean commute competitions.

5.Keep a Get There Green project diary in OnAir blog posts, to share their story with other interested schools.

6.Earn points in during end of year judging!

Small actions make a big difference. How can the Clean Air Schools team help?

We can also: • Problem solve and brainstorm. • Review the outcomes of each step. • Help maintain enthusiasm and keep your team motivated. • Suggest ideas and provide resources throughout the process.

The Clean Air Schools team will: 1. Visit your school in-person 2 times within the project period. 2. Conduct video conferences anytime with you or your students. 3. Answer questions via phone and email anytime.
