Ghosting the KIP IPS

The KIP IPS has three (2) ways that the hard drive can be restored. They are as follows:

1. Internal Recovery Image

2. CD Rom – Using a KIP Restore CD

There may be different reasons that it will be necessary to ghost the IPS including:

1. KIP provides a new Recovery Image that has new features.

2. Hard drive Replacement – If the hard drive is replaced with a new one the Ghost image will

need to be installed.

3. A power failure on site cause the hard drive to become corrupt or creates corrupted files

on the IPS.

Restoring the Hard Drive by Attaching a CD ROM and Using a 3000 Restore CD. In order to ghost the IPS using a CD Rom Drive and Restore CD; remove the IPS from the KIP printer.

Once the IPS is removed, remove the cover from the IPS and hook up an IDE CD Rom drive as a “Slave”;

connect to the open IDE cable connection off of the hard drive. Next insert the correct Restore CD into

the CD Rom and reboot. Please confirm you are using a current restore CD if unsure contact KIP at 800-

252-6793 for assistance. We will need the number off of the CD (ex. PPR-3000-XP-358-01) this build

number can also be retrieved by printing the IPS Build data sheet.

This process is used if the IPS no longer boots or if you are installing a new hard drive. Using this method

will wipe the hard drive and restore the complete drive to factory defaults (all data will be lost).

It may be necessary to enter the system BIOS to set the first bootable device to the CD ROM drive.

Once this is accomplished, the IPS will boot from the CD ROM and begin the ghosting process

automatically.

Once finished, disconnect the CD ROM drive and reinstall the IPS unit in the KIP 3000.

Total time approx 5 to 10 minutes.

Boot the IPS and enter into the BIOS, Using the arrow keys Scroll down to the IDE CD-ROM and set the

first boot device to the CD Rom. Save the BIOS setting and exit the BIOS. Reboot the IPS and the Ghost

process will start. Once the Ghost process has finished remove the CD ROM Drive and reboot. The IPS

will boot normally and load settings necessary for the IPS, and ask you to reboot one more time. After

this the system will be back to factory defaults.
