Ginetta has been building British road and race cars since 1958 and, as one of the few remaining British sports car manufacturers, are historically responsible for some of the most iconic race and road cars in history.

During your trial day experience with the Ginetta Factory Team, you’ll discover why so many drivers, from track day novices to seasoned GT veterans, have endorsed Ginetta as the ultimate track day and racing machines.

Whether you’re behind the wheel of the multi-disciplined G40, the awesome G55 GT4 and GT3 power plant, or any other model in the Ginetta range, you will experience acceleration, braking and lateral cornering performance far beyond that of regular sports cars.

To get the most out of your time with Ginetta, please take a few moments to read these briefing notes, written to familiarise you with the Ginetta range and their unique controls and handling characteristics.

The Ginetta Championships provide competitive and affordable racing for everyone, from the aspiring driver wanting to take their first step into competitive sports car racing in the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, Junior Championship or GT5 Challenge, to the seasoned professional looking for close, competitive thrills and excitement in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup.

Combining top class manufacturing with a dedication to teamwork and success, the Ginetta series offer unrivalled exposure for drivers, teams and sponsors both on and off track; with TV coverage of all races combined with a constant flow of media coverage and high-profile championship partners.

No other British manufacturer runs four championships within the two biggest racing packages in Britain and receives the levels of media exposure gained throughout the season. The Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and Ginetta Junior Championship can be seen running alongside the British Touring Car Championship, whilst the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and GRDC are a firm favourite on the British GT package.

In order to choose the right car for the customer, a trial day is encouraged to anyone wishing to get behind the wheel of a race car, whatever their level of ability.

Ginetta trial days are often conducted as part of general track days, and as such are subject to standard track day driving protocol.

There will be a mandatory driver’s briefing as part of the sign-on procedure, for which you will require your DVLA (or equivalent) driving licence.

It is likely that the Ginetta test car you drive will be one of the fastest vehicles on circuit at a track day, however you are still bound by the driving standards explained in the briefing.

Track days can be subject to red-flag stoppages and incidents on-circuit but we will endeavour to provide you as much seat time as possible; typically 45 minutes of instructor-accompanied driving time, with a full debrief after each on-track session.

These instructions form part of the total familiarisation you will have on the day with a Ginetta instructor.

Smooth drivingThis is the art of getting the best out of the car and the available grip. It makes the car easier to control at higher speeds, and more predictable through all speeds, utilising better control of weight transfer and aerodynamic grip, as well as mechanical grip and maximising the grip the tyre has to offer.

The inputs that will make this achievable are: 1) steering input, 2) braking input, 3) throttle input, 4) gear changes and 5) racing line.

Steering inputAvoid being aggressive; the car should be eased into and out of corners. Using large amounts of lock initially or at any point through a corner will unbalance the car, and increase the chance of losing control.

In most corners the initial (braking) phase is when the majority of the grip is available to you, but the largest demand on the grip of your tyres occurs between turn in and the apex. It is important not to place additional demands on the tyres by accelerating or braking hard. Although you can retain a constant speed, the important factor is that the car is in a neutral state until after the apex. Placing additional demands on the tyre will increase the chances of losing control.

It is important to get the majority of your steering done before applying throttle, this is even more important in low grip conditions such as in the wet.

Braking input

It is important to remember that the brakes on the Ginetta, although exceptionally good, are not like a road car. They are not servo-assisted, and there is no ABS. It also important to remember that the brakes are the most effective way of slowing the car down, not the gears or engine.

Braking where possible, should be done in a straight line, with steering input being minimal when the heaviest braking occurs. When braking for a corner, the initial brake pressure should be hard, with the closer you come to the corner, and the increased input of steering, the pressure on the brake pedal should start to be released.

If you have large amounts of lock and brake pressure, the end result will be that you and the car will not be going in the direction that you were hoping for!

Throttle input

The throttle shouldn’t be treated as a switch, and should only be applied once the majority of your steering has been completed. Again, applying large amounts of throttle, and steering lock, will result in you and the car pointing in a direction other than intended! Throttle input should be as with all other inputs, one fluid movement. This will help aid traction and control over the car.

Gear changes

Gear changes should always be done slowing before the corner. This will mean that the car is settled as you enter the corner, and ready for you to apply the steering and throttle. Gear changes should also not be rushed; again, if they are this may upset the balance of the car.

On up changes, the only time this may affect the balance of the car is when needing to change up a gear mid-corner. Ideally this shouldn’t be done, or if it is required, sometimes short shifting between corners into the next gear will help.

Tip: Ensure you have sufficiently slowed the car and selected the optimum gear before steering towards the apex.

Racing line

There are many different lines through corners but the theory is the same. The racing line is the route a racing driver follows in order to take corners in the fastest possible way. By using all of the available space on the track, cars can travel in a straighter line and travel faster before reaching the limits of grip.

To get the line right, it is vital to turn in at the correct point. Leave it too late and you’ll miss the apex, too soon and you’ll have to tighten your line mid-corner. Remember that the apex may be further round the turn than you can see. The apex is the point at which you are closest to the inside of the corner. Once you have hit the apex you should be able to reduce the steering lock and increase the throttle.

Tip: Look as far down the circuit as possible. “Hand/eye coordination dictates the car will steer where you are looking.”

Intended as your bridge between routine trackdays (or in fact no track experience at all) and the exciting world of car racing, the GRDC offers the purist driving experience.

With modest power and direct driving dynamics the G40 Club Car is wonderfully balanced on track. The car commands your attention with three full pedals and conventional H-patterned gearbox, you are at one with the capability to fully adjust the seat, pedals and steering column.

Driving the car, you use the clutch to go up and down the gears. Take your time and enjoy a pure racing car for the road.

A rev-happy 1800cc Zetec engine propells along between fast sequential gear changes.

The close-ratio gearbox requires no clutch to go up through the gears and a simple lift is enough to engage the next gear and increase speed.

Down shifts require the clutch with the personal option of a (reccomended) heel-and-toe blip of the throttle to make a smooth shift.

Look to the digital dashboard with shift lights to help time these changes and build up confidence and speed thanks to Michelin Motorsport tyres.

Our most enhanced drivers car offers ultra-fast gear changes as standard using an F1 style paddle shift system.

With 355 bhp on tap the GT4 makes light work of the world’s race circuits with full throttle upshifts (right paddle) and auto-blip downshifts (left paddle). Our Alcon braking system immediately reduces speed when called upon.

Jump on board adjusting the controls to suit and enjoy this GT racing car with high aerodynamic grip and Michelin slick tyres.

The Ginetta G55 GT3 is the fastest and most technically advanced car we produce. It has a number of electronic aids to assist your driving and help you lap faster than ever before.

The traction control system is fully adjustable for wet and dry conditions allowing you to accelerate aggressively minimising the risk of wheel spin.Braking performance of G55 GT3 is mind blowing thanks to the ABS system which allows you to use large amounts of brake pressure all the way to the apex of the corner.

You will find a lot of grip in the car, especially in the high speed corners thanks to the creative carbon fibre aerodynamic package.
