Glenn Sansom
Principal
Wow! What an awesome week it has been! On Monday we
had the Australian Indonesian Youth Exchange Program
come and performed for us. Unfortunately I was at Kiama
P.S at a Principal’s meeting, but staff, students and parents
were all in high praise of our visitors. Ann Sudmalis MP was
here to enjoy the afternoon as the program is a federally
funded initiative. On Wednesday we started the day with the
follow up to the Public Speaking and debating workshop
held at Vincentia H.S. Students who attended this workshop
learnt further skills in the art of public speaking and debat-
ing. Pam Barling who ran the workshop is returning next
week to run another workshop for our Year 5 students who
may be interested in running for a student leader’s position
in 2016. Also on Wednesday the tennis sessions continued
despite the challenging heat. In the afternoon we had the
Jump Off for Jump Rope for Heart. It was a great afternoon
This morning the Carlingford H.S performing ensemble
arrived and entertained our students for a solid hour. They
were not only highly entertaining; they were educational and
at times very amusing. Tomorrow we have our Years 3 and
4 participating in the Junior GALA Day – Super 8’s at
Sussex Inlet. It will be hot, so ensure your child has plenty
of food and especially fluids. Slip, Slop, Slap! The school
will be taking shelters for shade.
It goes to show you how Public Schools provide many rich
and broadening opportunities and experiences.
INTRODUCING OUR NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Recently interviews were held to fill the newly created
Assistant Principal Position. The successful candidate was
Mrs Greta Lewis from Artarmon P.S. Mrs Lewis comes
with a range of experiences from schools in the Riverina
both small (56 students) and medium sized (300 students)
and her current very large (1200 students) city school. We
warmly welcome Mrs Lewis to Huskisson Public School.
CLASS TEACHER POSITION
Yesterday the school due to our increasing numbers this
year advertised a class teacher position on the NSW
Teach NSW job site. It will be advertised for 2 weeks
before interviews will be held.

KIDSMATTER INITIAL SURVEY RESULTS
Top 6 what parents want to know more about:
1 Dealing with bullying
2 Children’s mental health and wellbeing
3 Managing challenging behaviour
4 Cyber safety
5 Building resilience and parenting information
6 Healthy family relationships and separation
Surveys indicate:
* Staff, students and parents were overwhelmingly
positive about HPS having a positive school
community.
* The majority of the school community was
represented (more than 70%).
* Perceptions of staff and student relationships
were positive in both K-2 and 3-6.
* Peer relationships and feeling safe – 3-6 indicat-
ed this was more of a concern than K-2,
however both areas had overall positive feed-
back.
* Friendships K-2 quite strong, indicating they
were happy with peer relationships. 3-6 over-
all happy, although there were a very small
percentage of students who felt they didn’t
have wide friendships. Almost all students
indicated they had the capacity to help a friend
in need.
* Immediate action – finalise and publish anti-
bullying policy on website. Promote current and
accessible information about Kids Matter via web-
site, newsletter and Facebook.
Another initiative arising from the survey results will be
the introduction of Y-Brave to the school. This will be
an integral component of our anti bully curriculum. A
comprehensive overview is below. I’d like to thank Ali
Goodwin for bringing this idea to the school after
recognising how well it would fit in with KidsMatter.
Y-B.R.A.V.E
Be Respectful and Value Everyone
Y-B.R.A.V.E is about promoting healthy relationships and targets students in stages 2 & 3 in primary schools. Participants will learn skills to minimise harm and develop resilience. YWCA NSW delivers the pro-gram presenting workshops on: Resilience, Bullying, Cyberbully, Cyber safety and Protective Behaviours.
Y-B.R.A.V.E specifically addresses the issues that young people face throughout their formative years and equips them with an understanding that will ena-ble them to make informed decisions about present and future relationships. Y – B.R.A.V.E - Stage 2 and Stage 3, aligns with the following Strands in PDHPE: Growth and Development, Personal Health Choices, Safe Living and Interpersonal Relationships
Y-B.R.A.V.E has delivered the program since 1996 to over 54,000 participants. This success and the inter-est received from schools have encouraged YWCA NSW to deliver presentations to local public schools in the Shoalhaven area, assisting participants to gain valuable knowledge in maintaining healthy relation-ships leading into their future.
Y-B.R.A.V.E Outcomes
Participants raise their awareness of respectful
relationships.
Participants increase their knowledge and under-
standing of rights and responsibilities in relationships.
Participants increase their skills in recognising
and assessing risk.
Y-B.R.A.V.E is presented by trained YWCA NSW facilitators. Flexibility has been built into each module of the program in order to ensure that content is cul-turally relevant and age appropriate. It is funded by YWCA NSW.

Thank you Huskisson Public School for your participation and support for Jump Rope For Heart.
The latest tally of money raised is $2800. Our target was $1000 so we well and truly beat that.
Paper sponsorship forms and money are due in tomorrow so they can be processed and prizes organised
by the end of the year.
The Jump Off day was a huge success and it was great to see everyone wearing red. We were impressed
by the skipping skills you demonstrated after learning and practising them since the start of this term.
Keep skipping!
