Rules and Regulations1. There are no entry fees for this virtual fair.

2. Pictures should not include names, faces or other information that identifies the exhibitor.

3. For best results, pictures should be high resolution and taken on a white or neutral background (where possible).

4. Exhibitors can submit entries in as many classes and sections as they wish, but only one submission per exhibitor per section is permitted.

5. Prizes will be awarded as outlined above. No exhibitor will be awarded more than one gift card prize. If an exhibitor receives first place in more than one section, the additional gift card prize(s) will go to the second place entrant(s).

6. All entries are to be current and of the exhibitor. Specifically:

a. Livestock must be owned or cared for by the exhibitor and of the appropriate age set out in the section description

b. Fruits, roots, vegetables, flowers and any other plant or crop must have been harvested in or be growth from the current year and must be grown by the exhibitor

c. All exhibits in the food, arts and handicrafts sections must be the work of the exhibitor

d. Photos in the photography section must be taken by the exhibitor

e. No pictures are to be computer generated or digitally enhanced unless otherwise specified in class or section description

7. Entries will be judged and the decision of the judge(s) shall be final. No appeals shall be considered.

8. The Fergus Agricultural Society has the right to share, post or otherwise distribute the submitted pictures for the purpose of promoting the fair, acknowledging entries and publicizing results.

9. The Fergus Agricultural Society reserves the right at any time to cancel this prize list and they will not be held responsible for the payment of prize money if circumstances beyond their control should arise.

10. An exhibitor found guilty of breaking any rule in the premium list shall forfeit all the prizes to which they might otherwise be entitled.

11. Any other rules listed in the class descriptions in this document must be followed for the sections they pertain to.

How to enter virtually Each fair entry is to be submitted electronically as a picture, in colour. Only one picture of your exhibit will be accepted, unless otherwise stated in the class description.

Pictures can be taken using a camera, phone, tablet, etc. File formats .jpeg, .jpg, .png, or .tiff will be accepted. Pictures must be submitted no later than September 12, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.

• All prizes will be available for pick up in Fergus following the fair weekend.

Entries in this class require two pictures (showing two different angles) to be submitted.

1. “Say thank you with flowers” - a bouquet for doctors, nurses and caregivers who have served tirelessly during COVID-19

2. “Let the kids play” - an arrangement of small blooms to suggest youthful joy. Encourage kids to help or just be your inner kid.

3. “The colours of the rainbow” - make a splash.

4. “Sing a Song” - an arrangement for a song that’s special to you; include the title.

5. “What’s your favourite?” - make an arrangement with your favourite flower, tall or tiny, including a supporting cast and greenery.

YouthCLASS 53

Parents are urged to let the children do the work and preparation of the exhibits with limited assistance. Pictures of exhibits may be taken and submitted by an adult.

Ages 5 and under

Section

1. A page of colouring on white paper, using waxed crayons, mounted on a black construction paper

2. Necklace made using pasta and/or cereal

3. The longest carrot, picture to be taken with measuring tape beside carrot. Tops not to be included.

4. Most unusually shaped vegetable from the garden

5. Collection from a walk, 6 items displayed on a tray. No live creatures.

Ages 6 to 10

6. Collection of 3 different root vegetables, 2 of each, displayed on a tray

7. Bouquet of flowers for the kitchen table

8. A fall scene using different varieties of seeds, maximum size 8.5 X 11”

9. Draw a picture of fireworks on black construction paper. You can use glitter, sequins, etc.

10. Article made of duct tape, no larger than 12”, picture to be taken with tape measure beside article

Ages 11 to 15

11. Collection of 3 different root vegetables, 2 of each, displayed on a tray

12. Flower arrangement for someone you haven’t seen for awhile

13. Painting on glass item, not a kit

14. Adult colouring page using pencil crayons, mounted on black background with ½” black border

15. Ingredients in a jar – “Sand Art Brownie Mix” (recipe below)

1 cup + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

½ tsp salt

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

2/3 cup white sugar

1/3 cup baking cocoa

1 1⁄2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1⁄2 cup vanilla or white chips

1⁄2 cup pecans (optional)

In a small bowl, combine flour and salt. This is the first layer in a quart size jar. Layer remaining ingredients in the order given above and seal the jar.

Attach the following instructions to the jar:

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, whisk 3 eggs, 2/3 cup canola oil and 1 tsp vanilla together. Add brownie mix. Stir until blended.

Spread into a 9” square baking pan.

Bake 25 – 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean. Do not over bake.

Cool on a wire rack.

Yield: 16 servings
