Maths

Today we are going to be focussing on money.

Page 15: Good Morning Unicorns

Let’s look at the answers and how you could have worked them out on the next slide…

• Should you count the notes or coins first? • How should you count the pennies? • Is it easier to combine coins that have the same value?

Page 16: Good Morning Unicorns

Do any of the notes represent pence?

Page 17: Good Morning Unicorns

Now I would like you to have a go at completing the questions on the next slides. You can write your answers in your exercise books.

If you would like to try Gruffalo work, complete questions 1 and 2.

If you would like to try Horrid Henry work, complete questions 1, 2, 3 and 4

If you would like to try James and the Giant Peach work, complete questions 1, 2, 3 ,4 and the Challenge question on the following slide.

English

• Today you are going to start creating your

own version of ‘Death of a Pancake’.

• First, look back at your story maps from yesterday to remind yourself of what the main events in the story were.

Page 26: Good Morning Unicorns

• In the story, the pancake met three people carrying

out different jobs when he was running away:

1. A milkmaid who was churning cream to make butter.

2. A jam-maker who was heating up blackberries to use the juice to make jam.

3. A blacksmith who was heating up iron to make horseshoe nails.

These are all examples of materials changing.

Page 27: Good Morning Unicorns

• I would like you to decide on three foods that change

when they are heated.

For example:

1. A bar of chocolate being melted to make a hot chocolate drink.

2. A raw egg being fried or scrambled.

3. A potato being fried to make chips.

Page 28: Good Morning Unicorns

• Now decide on who the people in the story are going

to be who change the food:

For example:

1. A thirsty girl from Unicorns Class making hot chocolate.

2. A Dad scrambling eggs for a hungry boy’s birthday breakfast.

3. A chef at Farnborough Fish and Chip Shop frying chips for a teacher’s dinner.

Page 29: Good Morning Unicorns

• Finally, you need to draw a story map and add on your

new characters and their food.
