Invitation to Grandparents & Friends Day

27 October 2019 is Grandparents Day. NSW Grandparents Day celebrates the role grandparents and older people play in our society - both the things they have done, and the things they keep doing. We are having a special grandparents and friends morning tea at school to celebrate this special day. We are delighted to invite all grandparents and special friends of children in Years K-6 to our annual Grandparents and Friends morning tea, which will take place on Friday 25 October from 11:00am to 11:45am.

Grandparents and special friends will be invited to spend some time in the K/1/2 or 3/4 classrooms before being served delicious jam and scones and a cuppa at recess time by our Year 5 and 6 students. This event will be a great learning opportunity for our senior students to make, serve and interact with a range of people.

Term 4, Week 2 Tuesday 29 October 2019

During the week, all students will spend time designing and making an invitation for their grandparents and special friends.

K/1/2 News

We are getting back into maths with enthusiasm. Our rotations have been full of fun games to use our maths skills like the nasty game, 50 to 1, dominoes and snakes and ladders. Dice are great for creating random number combinations.

Following is our class in our rotations.

We also watched a fantastic clip called ‘catch it’ for our writing prompts. We have been upskilling our words to make our writing more detailed and entertaining. Such as other words for looked: gazed, stared, ogled, marvelled, glanced, admired and searches. Hopefully you will get to read our stories soon!

Still no homework this week but remember we need to read for at least 10 minutes every night. Thank you to those students who return their reading logs, it’s great to see your efforts. We are practising our familiar words.

3/4 News

During maths this week, students in 3/4 will be examining place value of 4 and 5-digit numbers.

Students in 3/4 have enjoyed completing times table challenges to improve their knowledge of multiplication facts. This week students will challenge themselves with 5 times tables.

We will begin our reading sessions for the term. 3/4 will be completing a range of activities to develop their comprehension, writing and reading skills.

During art, 3-6 have been busy constructing artworks for an exhibition at Griffith Art Gallery. The theme for the art works is ‘Mother Love’. I am looking forward to seeing some of the finished products. The completed artworks will be on display at the Gallery as from 1 November.

5/6 News

On Friday afternoon, it was a battle of the Ashes with Year 6 versing Year 5. Year 5 won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a very shaky start for the opening batters, followed by a total collapse of the middle order and tail end. Much of the Year 5 outfit were inexperienced and they were all out for nine runs after some sensational bowling by Year 6.

Year 6 had a flying start. Scoring runs all over the pitch. All batters put in a solid performance before declaring for 2/37 with several batters retiring to allow all team members a chance to bat.

Year 5 returned to the pitch composed and calm, knocking up a quick 20 runs before home time. At stumps on day one, Year 6 were holding a strong lead over the young Year 5 team.
