Calling all Girl Scouts….

Are you looking for a Service Project?

Do you love conservation, butterflies and the out-doors?

Do you want to help create a lasting program?

…and even create a patch?

Do you want to work with some great and committed people?

Do you want to be part of something bigger than you ever imagined?

…then contact Nensi Fiorenini at [email protected] or 202-486-6966 Here are some of the details –

The Monarch Butterfly is in serious decline in the world. The population has been dwindling for years, but recent drops have surprised even the experts. We have a chance to increase the Monarch Butterfly population while creating op-portunities for numerous girl scouts to participate in this great project.

The Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is leading the effort in Loudoun County to increase the Monarch Butterfly popula-tion. There is already a fair amount of interest, what is lacking is someone that wants to coordinate the efforts of the various troops and groups that want to participate. This would make a fun and sustainable project that is both local and global in nature! What we are looking for is a leader for this effort within the Girl Scout community.

The kinds of projects we are envisioning are things like – creating a patch program, education on the how we can im-pact the population, creating Monarch habitats, maintaining newly established waystations, monitoring the egg, cater-pillar and butterfly populations, motivating other troops to do their share, working with existing groups to raise money to expand gardens, etc. Don’t let my list limit your imagination!

Bottom line, there is a role for us all to help save the beautiful Monarch Butterfly.

If you are interested or want to get more information, please have the girls or troops contact me directly at [email protected] or 202-486-6966. I think this could be an amazing project with visible and immediate results for all of us.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Clarification on Lifetime Memberships Girls who are registered 2012-13 members and are graduating seniors can purchase a lifetime membership at a reduced cost of $156 through August 16. From August 16—September 30, a lifetime membership increases to $300. After September 30 the cost is $375.

Next year’s 12th graders will be able to purchase a lifetime membership for $195, closing date to be determined.

Current adult members can buy a lifetime membership for $300 and are encouraged to purchase by August 16. This price may remain in effect until September 29, but the date is dependent on GSUSA.

The 2014 membership forms reflect the new pricing. Graduating seniors should use the 2012-2013 form and pay $156. Anyone who pays $195 through August 16 will receive a refund of $39.

Lifetime memberships as a Girl Scout adult is available to any individual who accepts the principles and beliefs of the Girl Scout Movement, pays the one-time lifetime membership cost, and is 18 years of age or older or is a high school graduate or the equivalent.
