CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

THE LIBERTY CENTER UPDATE Thank you to Grace Lutheran Church congregation for all you prayers, financial support, donations, and volunteer time to support our mission to serve those who find themselves without a home in our community. Your help has made it possible to serve 125 people in 2019 who may have had to live in a car, on the street, or accept shelter in circumstances that may not have been safe for them or their children. In January we served 24 people, and likely will do at least the same in February as temperatures stay low and weather continues to be inhospitable. We ask for your continued support. If anyone is interested in learning about ways you can help on a more personal level, please contact Margaret Weisz or Mary Beaver at the center at 419-332-8777.

BOOKWORMS NEWS

We are always looking for new members. The group will meet again on Monday, March 23 at 7 p.m. Our meetings generally last about an hour.

During our March meeting we will meet to discuss Redemption: Memory Man Series #5, by David Baldacci. This book centers around detective, Amos Decker, as he discovers that a mistake he made as a rookie may have had deadly consequences.

Please note that members are responsible for obtaining a copy of any of the books that they wish to read.

S.L.A.M. (Scripture, Life And Me) takes place Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. We are beginning a study on the book of 1 Corinthians. It’s not too late to jump in and enjoy great fellowship while discussing scripture and how it applies to our everyday lives. This group meets in the large Sunday School room across from the elevator.

JUGGLING ACT!! Are you a woman who is juggling a variety of responsibilities that leave you feeling stressed, out of sorts and far from God? If so, how about taking some time for yourself once a month to talk with other women who are feeling the same way. Plan to join us at Frisch’s on Tuesday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. You are welcome to order dinner or just a beverage (at your own cost) while we chat. Questions? Ask Maureen, by email at [email protected] or call the church office, 419-332-1558.

LENTEN CHOIR - The season of Lent will soon be upon us and I would like to take this opportunity to invite all singers to prayerfully consider joining us for the season through Easter. This will be an opportunity for those who may not be able to commit to an every week rehearsal schedule. Rehearsals begin on Thursday, February 27 and continue on Thursday evenings throughout the season. Rehearsal time is 7 p.m. Come, join us, and have some fun! ~ Tom Curry, Director of Music

LENTEN CANTATA OFFERED ON LAETARE SUNDAY - Laetare Sunday is the fourth Sunday in the season of Lent, in the Western Christian liturgical calendar. Traditionally, this Sunday has been a day of celebration, within the austere period of Lent. This Sunday gets its name from the first few words of the traditional Latin entrance for the Mass of the day. "Laetare Jerusalem" is Latin from Isaiah 66:10. The Lenten Cantata My Song is Love Unknown by mid-west composer, John Leavitt, (b. 1956) will be sung during worship on Saturday, March 21 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 22 at 9 a.m. and feature the Chancel Choir and soloists. The cantata incorporates the hymn tune Love Unknown, John Ireland, 1879-1962.

PLEASE NOTE that Pr. Jody’s Adult Sunday School class on March 29 will meet at 8:30 a.m.

Dear Grace Lutheran Church, Thank you again for your absolutely awesome and generous reception back in September. We will never forget how you not only welcomed strangers on bicycles into your church one humid September Sunday morning in 2019, but also how you allowed us to speak before your congregation about our cause. Grace Lutheran contributed a huge amount. Your welcome and positive words, along with your openness will always remain imprinted in my memory. Our trip took two months out of 2019, and we saw diverse landscapes, from forests, to mountains, to deserts, lakes, rivers and oceans. America is huge (bicycling makes the world small again), and it is full of helpful people. All across America, donations were made, shelter was given, food was offered. We raised over $10,000. Erik donated $5,000 to the American Brain Tumor Association based in Chicago, and Karam donated $5,000 to the Suicide Awareness Voices of Educated, based in Minneapolis. These donations were made in memory of Marc Quinson and Joey Morra.

Thank you, Karam For more memories, check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/usridetosavelives/ Or you can check out my personal photo album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/TtVsCy8TSuCFBZwV9

Dear Grace Lutheran Church, Thank you so much for the generous gift you gave to SNAP Ministries. What a blessing! We will use it for our main campus church building.

Love in Christ, Sara Tanner

CONFIRMATION will meet again on Sunday, March 15 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran. Then the group will visit the Greater St. James Church on March 22. For more information contact Heather.

IS YOUR CHILD LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT? Join us for a week in West Virginia serving at a work camp July 19-25, 2020. All youth ages 12-20 are invited to attend. Please contact Heather Hawn for more details.

LIFT DIRECTOR OF DISCIPLESHIP & OUTREACH SNAPSHOT - March 2020 Our LIFT Book Club will meet for the first time on April 16 at 6:30pm in the lounge at St. John’s. Our book will be Love Lives Here by Maria Goff. We usually read a few chapters each month and meet about 3 times to complete the book. Please let me know by March 15 if you would like to purchase the book and we’ll do a group order to utilize a discount. The newly formed Community Garden Planning Team held their first planning meeting and I can already taste the delicious vegetables that will be growing this summer in the raised beds at St. Mark Lutheran Church! If you would like to be part of gardening crew over the summer, please let me know so we can add you to our informational updates and schedule for weekly maintenance. I can’t wait to see our homerun total grow throughout the Lenten season! Be sure to look for the details on this year’s Lenten Collection organized by the Caring Table.

With you on the journey, Pam K.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE LIFT’S JOINT FIFTH SUNDAY WORSHIP 1. Worship will be at 10:00am on March 29 at Grace Lutheran Church (705 W State St, Fremont, OH). Handicap accessible entrance is available at the south side of the building in the parking lot off Baker Street.

2. Bring your own offering envelope or utilize one of the designated envelopes to have your offering returned to your home congregation. Loose offering received during worship will be used to support LIFT’s Lenten Collection to sponsor Spring Baseball Leagues at the Fremont Rec Center.

3. Make plans to stay for a potluck following worship! Items can be taken to the dining room prior to worship and we will have runners available to assist you in getting items taken downstairs. Each congregation will assist with a specific type of dish: St. John’s - Desserts; St. Mark/Trinity - Salads; Emmanuel - Pack-Away Hunger Meals; Grace - Side Dishes. Meat, Beverages, and Table Service will be provided.

4. Accessibility is readily available for all those attending worship. An elevator is available near the sanctuary to allow everyone to join in the fellowship following worship.

5. You won’t want to miss out on hearing a joint Adult Choir as we join together and we will have the children’s bell choir share their joyful noise during worship. Please note that children will be invited to leave worship for children’s church following the bell choir and return prior to communion.

FAREWELL & GODSPEED PASTOR SCOTT

All are invited to join in wishing Pastor Scott and Sherry "Godspeed" as they enter into a new ministry! Pastor Scott will preach his final sermon in the LIFT Parish on Sunday, February 23 during the 10:30 a.m. worship service at St. John's Lutheran. Following worship (about 12pm), a pizza party with desserts will be hosted in St. John's Parish House auditorium. Come and celebrate with Pr. Scott for one last "WOOHOO"! A freewill offering will be collected to offset pizza costs.
