Grade 10 Reflection

Throughout grade 10 I learnt how to use a variety of programs. With these programs I explored how to use them and how well I could express my ideas using them. Grade 10 taught me the basic skills in using a variety of programs. I learnt the principles of design, which gave me a better understanding of the use of color, pattern, and texture. Throughout the year was able to improve my drafting abilities through drawings of 1 and 2 point perspective. Before grade 10 I had only ever used the metric system of measurement, but soon learnt how to visualize measurement using the imperial system. We explored many areas of design in grade 10, through this exploration I developed a preference of designing houses.

Grade 11 Reflection

In my second year of design studies I became more comfortable with using the various programs. My designs got more complex through experimenting with different styles and materials. In class we learnt different styles such as, Georgian, Victorian, Cape Cod, and Tutor. I used two of these styles of architecture in the year. The bed and breakfast project was influenced by the Victorian style and the 2D house design on Auto Desk was influenced by Georgian architecture. I really enjoyed experimenting with elements from these styles of design and gave me a better understanding of the architecture we see around the world. I’ve learnt to appreciate design and understand how to make a structure aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.

Reflection of The Past 3 YearsOver the three years in Design Studies my ability to create and design a

functional structure has improved greatly. I’ve learnt how to successfully design a floor plan that meets all the requirements of the assignment. Throughout the three years I’ve learnt how to use programs such as; Revit, Auto Cad, Inventor, Sketch up, and Mydeco. Out of all the programs I have used over the years my favorite is Revit. I feel in Revit I can successfully create my designs and communicate my ideas. In grade 12 we also learnt about landscaping, which I really enjoyed. I learnt a lot about plants and the type of environment they need to survive in. These past three years have showed me how design influences our everyday life. I learnt it’s important that as a inspiring designer I understand it’s what we create that people move their lives around. I’ve enjoyed learning how to create efficient, and functional designs that meets the needs of people.

As I reflect through my pervious designs I see the growth in my skill level. At the beginning my designs were very basic with simple geometry such as a rectangular shaped floor plans. As I proceed though the years my work got more complex. In my latest Revit project of the café I can see my development through the unique and detailed shapes I’ve included in my design. Throughout the three years I realized I have a preference for Interior Design, which I would like to eventually pursue as a career. I am very happy with my improvement over the past 3 years and I hope to further my knowledge and skill throughout my life.
