INTRODUCTION

Allfinalyearstudentswhomeetthefollowingrequirementswillbeallowedtograduate.

Candidatesmust:

➢ CompletetheVerificationofBiographicalDataFormobtainable fromFacultyOfficers/Webpage➢ Attachacertifiedcopyofyoursenior/matriccertificateandID➢ Havecompletedtheminimumrequirementsforthequalification➢ Verifytheirdetailsontheprovisionalgraduationlisttoensure correctness➢ Ensurethatalloutstandingfeeshavebeenpaid60dayspriortothe startingdateofthegraduationceremonyinordertoreceiveyour certificate➢ Inthecaseofapostgraduatestudent,submitahardcopyaswellasan electroniccopyofyourThesis,Dissertationand/orResearchReport totheExaminationSection/Facultybytherespectivedeadlinesto ensuretimeousapprovalbySenate

Candidates must furthermore:

A) BEFORE GRADUATION CEREMONY

Correct Names

Ensure thatyourcorrectnamesare reflectedon thefinalgraduation list.The name reflected on your IdentityDocument is the name thatwill beprintedonyourgraduationcertificate.Graduation Attire

All graduands are required to wear the prescribed graduation attire toceremonies as approved by the University. Those obtaining a degree/diplomamustwearagown,hoodandmortarboardandthoseobtainingacertificatemustwearagownandmortarboard.Only the correct approved academic attire (colours) will be allowed in the graduation venue. The correctness of academic attire will be confirmed by the University.

Dress Code for Graduands

Thedresscodeforthegraduationceremonyisformal/traditionalwear.Asyouwillbemovingaroundduring theday (upanddownthestairs tothestage,kneelinginfrontoftheChancellor,allaroundtheperimeterofthehallandbacktoyourseat) it is importantthatyouwearcomfortableclothingandshoesthatwillnotrestrictyourmobilityinanyway.

PleasenotethatNO SNEAKERS AND JEANSareallowedtobeworntotheceremonyasthisisaformaluniversitygathering.

Tickets for the Ceremony

• Everygraduandwhosenameappearsonthefinalpublishedgraduation listhasareservedseatandisallowedfourguesttickets.

• TicketscanbecollectedatAdminBuildingfoyer(nexttoABSA)3days priortoyourceremonyaswellasonthemorningofeachgraduation ceremony

Please note that we do not have any ‘Extra Tickets’ nor are tickets for sale! Only sufficient tickets are printed as per the capacity of the graduation venue.

Ceremony Dates, Venue and Times.

• TheGraduationCeremonieswillbeheldaspublishedintheUniversity Calendar.• AllGraduationCeremoniesareheldintheKingBhekuzuluHallat KwaDlangezwaCampusandcommencepromptlyat09:00and14:00 respectively,unlessotherwiseadvised.• Thedurationoftheceremonyisapproximately2½hours.

Special Needs Arrangements

IfyouoranyofyourguestshavemobilitydifficultiesandrequireassistancetoaccessKingBhekuzuluHall,pleaseenterthehallfromDoorNo.5.

B) DURING THE GRADUATION CEREMONY

GRADUANDS & GUESTS MUST BE SEATED 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE CEREMONY. DOORS WILL BE CLOSED BEFORE THE PROCESSION ENTERS THE HALL. NO LATECOMERS WILL BE ACCOMMODATED!

Guests enter throughDoor No. 7 of theKingBhekuzuluHall andwill bedirectedwheretosit.

GraduandsenterthroughDoor No. 1oftheKingBhekuzuluHall.Youmustpresentyouradmissionticketandproceedtotheseatnumberindicatedonyourpresentationcard.

YouwilluseyourpresentationcardtopresenttotheDeanwhowillcalloutyournameforconfermentofthequalification.

An official photographer will take photographs during the graduationceremony.Graduandsmayorder(atowncost)individualphotographsfromthephotographer. Thedetailsof theofficiallyappointedphotographer/swillbeavailableontheUniversity’swebpagefromJanuaryeachyear.

Graduandswhosestudentaccountsaresettledwillreceivetheircertificatesattheceremony.NocertificateswillbeissuedtoGraduandswhoowefees.

C) PROCEDURE FOR THE CONFERRALS

1. Conferral of diplomas and certificates

The conferral will take place in the order indicated in the graduationprogramme.Thegraduationprogrammewillbeonyourseat.Whenitisyourturntogoonstage,youwillbeledbyushersaccordingtotheprogrammeandinthesameorderinwhichyoutookyourseat.Takeyourpresentationcardwithyouandleaveotheritemsonyourseat.Proceedtothestepsontheright-handsideofthestage,whereyoumusthandyourpresentationcardtotheDean.He/shewillreadoutyourname.

Whileyouarestandingthere,aphotowillbetakenofyou.Afterthis,theRegistrarwillshakeyourhandtocongratulateyouonyourachievement.Asecondphotowillnowbetakenofyou.

Afterthis,leavethestageontheright-handside,whereyourcertificatewillbehandedtoyou.Resumeyourseat.

2. Conferral of degrees

The conferral will take place in the order indicated on the graduationprogramme.Thegraduationprogrammewillbeonyourseat.

Whenitisyourturn,youwillbeledbyusherstowardsthestageaccordingtotheprogrammeandinthesameorderinwhichyoutookyourseat.Takeyourpresentationcardwithyouandleaveotheritemsonyourseat.

Drapethehoodofthedegreethatwillbeconferredonyouoveryourleftforearmandproceedtothestepsontheright-handsideofthestage,whereyoumusthandyourpresentationcard to theDean.He/shewill readoutyourname.Whileyouarestandingthere,aphotowillbetakenofyou.

After this, youmove towards and kneel in front of the Chancellor, whowillcapyou,asecondphotowillnowbetakenofyou.MovetowardstheRegistrarwherethehoodwillbeplacedoveryourheadbytheRegistrar,hereathirdphotowillbetakenofyou.

Afterthis,leavethestageontheright-handside,whereyourcertificatewillbehandedtoyou.Resumeyourseat.

3. Conferral of Doctoral degrees

Thesameprocedurewillapplyasfortheconferralofdegreesabove,exceptthat the graduand will pause for the reading of the citation before theChancellorcapsthegraduand.

NB: You may not leave the hall before the Chancellor has declared the proceedings closed and the procession has left the hall

D) AFTER THE GRADUATION CEREMONY

Photographs

• Graduandsshouldtaketheirpersonalandfamilyphotographsafterthe ceremony.• Studentsmustcontactthephotographerdirectlyfortheirstagephotos.

Lost Certificate

• Youareonlyentitledtooneoriginaldegreecertificate.Youmayapply foraduplicatecopyofyourdegreecertificateshouldyouroriginal certificatebelostordamaged.

• Applicationsforaduplicatecertificatemustbe accompaniedbyanaffidavitcertifiedbyaCommissionerofOaths.• AnamountofR378willbepayableinto(ABSA account). Uponcollectionoftheduplicatecertificate,proofofpaymenttobe submittedtotheCertificationOffice.

E) NOT ATTENDING THE GRADUATION CEREMONY

Ifyouareunabletoattendyourgraduationceremony,you will graduate in absentia.

Collection of the Certificate

• TheprescribedfeewhengraduatinginabsentiaisR257.00• TheonusisonyoutoinformtheCertificationOfficethatyouwillbe graduatinginabsentia.• Oncetheprescribedfeehasbeenpaidthecertificatewillbepostedto youtotheaddressprovided.• Certificatesnothandedoverattheceremonywillberetainedbythe University• Whencollectingcertificates,Graduatesmustproducetheir original ID Document
