Evaluation

This style involved the use of my phone camera to photograph my friend displaying a variety of different emotions that are exaggerated and varied. What I like about the images were the distinguishable emotions and the simplicity and clarity, making it easier to view the emotions being put forward. Creation of the images was very fast, the fastest method I think, that involved photographing my friend displaying different emotions. At most this took around two minutes to focus the image and adopt a pose. This style is suitable for a wide range of audiences depending on the after effects used and the context of the images. Since the photos are very workable they could be put into a wide variety of situations, thus making a wide range of different stories possible. The equipment suitable for this task would be a phone with photographing capabilities, and a computers to upload the images to.

Evaluation

This experiment involved the use of pencils, paper and a reference image on the internet to create an original freehand drawing. What I like about this image is the detail incorporated and how clear the image is, as well as being able to design it all how I want. The colour and hard outlines makes the image very distinguishable. Creation of this image took me around an hour and a half as I worked at a slower pace to make sure I got proportions and details correct, and the image turned out better as a result. While the process was very straightforward, drawing some of the details correctly was challenging. This experiment uses a style that is very similar to many artist’s styles in children’s books, which use basic but charming pencil drawings for their illustrations. This creates a great kid-friendly yet timeless feel by using simple techniques and equipment. Using this style will appeal to any age based on the content of the drawing, whether it be more cartoonish or adopting a more serious style.Equipment needed for this style is a pencil and paper, colours if needed, and if slightly amateur, a reference image from the internet.

Evaluation

In this piece I have used the Cutout filter and the threshold tool to create an effect that has a cell shaded style similar to that in comic books. What I like about this image is that the colours now stand out much more than in the original and bring out a great combination with the skin tone and blood red text.Creating this image only took around 5 minutes thanks to knowledge of the tools used and relative simplicity of the process.Similar products to this design might be fan made images that sometimes use a cell shaded style as opposed to the normal style used by the source. They tend to use the same tools I used or more professional techniques. My design will appeal pretty much only to fans of Dexter or those who like cell shaded ‘comic book’ styles. The only resources needed would be a computer and a copy of Photoshop, and likely an internet connection to upload the designs. Sufficient knowledge of Photoshop would be needed.

Evaluation

This piece involved the use of the Polygonal Lasso tool and Colour Overlay to create the rotoscope effect, with each piece of the face and body being drawn individually to build up the picture in a cartoon style. What I like about this piece is the detail in the forehead and mouth, as well as the generally accurate proportions and shape of the face. Similar products to this have a good chance of appearing in graphic novels and children’s books thanks to the simple but effective art style. It is a good but somewhat less used style. This style can appeal to children plus adults who enjoy a cell shaded style.Resources needed for this style would be Photoshop, computer and Photoshop knowledge.

Overall Evaluation

I think that the majority of majority of experiments undertaken were successful and a few are very suited towards the style I want and need for my chosen narrative. In particular, the illustration and comic book effects are very stylish and I would like to incorporate one of the two or a combination of both in my final product. However, I feel like the rotoscope and digital photography would not work very well in my narrative, as I would like to have a lot of drawn detail and rotoscoping an image tends to lose a great deal of detail. Digital photography is not very flexible in that only real life pictures can be used. I feel as if I need some more practice in illustration, because while my drawing is mostly correct and I am happy with it, there are still several errors relating to proportion and detail. Also, I would like to further master the use of different filters in Photoshop in order to produce some great looking effects.
