    GREETING

OPENING HYMN “God of the Ages” No. 698

    AFFIRMATION OF FAITH No. 881

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in

Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Ponus Pilate, was crucified, dead,

and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven,

and siEeth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he

shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the

holy Chrisan church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the

resurrecon of the body, and the life everlasng. Amen.

HYMN OF PRAYER “America” No. 697 (vs. 1 & 4)

    PASTORAL PRAYER...LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptaon, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the

kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

    Core: Leadership and Ministry

    • Makes up approximately 10/15% of the membership and is the most

commiEed to Christ and to the ministry of the local church.

    • Accept a large responsibility for the ongoing mission and ministry.

    • Most faithful in vows: prayers, presence, gi's, service, and witness.

    • Desire to grow spiritually.

    • They do not get offended as o'en and understand regular and sacrificial

    giving habits.

    • This is the part of church that can be the most honest, where truth is

spoken in love and understood in that framework.

    CommiGed: Maturing Members

    • Faithful in their worship aEendance, these people o'en show up for

church school or Bible study, and they support programs of the church.

    • Church is important to these folks, but they tend to speak in terms of

what they receive versus what they give to the church.

    • They tend to perceive church as something they belong to rather than

something they are a part of – a club, versus a body.

    • They are comfortable in church; therefore, they can be resistant to

    change.

    • They may have strong opinions about everything, but they are not

    always faithful.

    • The majority of a churches programming is directed to these people.

    • They want the church to succeed, to thrive, and even to grow; however,

they do not want growth to cause too much change, nor do they want

the church’s health to cost too much.

    WORSHIP CONNECT SERVE

  • Congrega7on: Members

    • This group does church on Sunday – but are not involved in much else.

    • They are faithful to Sunday’s for “God-fixes” but liEle else.

    • We need and want these people in our churches and we are grateful to

have them; but a church would not survive long based on the good will

    of this group alone.

    • They view church as consumers – the Church exists to serve their needs.

    • They tend to be the most offended with money talk.

    • They are not always clear about the mission and ministry of the church.

    • They give to causes and less to budget.

    • Mixing metaphors: Core is on the field; CommiEed are on the sidelines;

    Congregaon is in the stands.

    Crowd: Regular AGenders

    • Some may call these folks the Christmas and Easter crowd.

    • They o'en do not believe that it makes a difference to them whether

they are part of a church community or not – they feel they can be

    spiritual on their own.

    • They have a very limited understanding of what the church is and does.

    • They view the pastor as the paid professional who “runs” the church.

They do not understand the concept of “equipping the saints.”

    • They need to have their need for connectedness awakened, as well as

    their need for interdependence.

    Community

    • Inacve or uninvolved in a local congregaon.
