    INTRODUCTION

    Shampoo is a hair care product used for the removal of

    oils, dirt, skin particles, dandruff, environmental pollutants

    and other contaminant particles that gradually build up inhair.

    The word shampoo in English is derived from Hindi chmpo in 1762.

    The Shampoo itself originated in the eastern regions of the Mughal

    Empire particularly in the Nawab of Bengal where it was introduced as a

    head massage, usually consisting of Alkali natural oils and fragrances.

    The Shampoo was first introduced in Britain by a Bengali Muslim

    entrepreneur named Sake Dean Mahomed, he first familiarized the

    shampoo in Basil Cochrane's vapour baths while working there in the

    early 19th century

    Later onward's Sake Dean Mohamed together with his Irish wife, opened

    "Mohamed's Steam and Vapor Sea Water Medicated Baths" in Brighton,

    England. His baths were like Turkish baths where clients received a

    treatment of champi (shampooing). Very soon due to Sake Dean

    Mohamed fame as a bathing expert he was appointed Shampooing

    Surgeon to both George IV and William IV

    In the 1860s, the meaning of the word shifted from the sense of massage

    to that of applying soap to the hair.

    Earlier, ordinary soap had been used for washing hair

    However, the dull film soap left on the hair made it uncomfortable,

    irritating, and unhealthy looking.

    During the early stages of shampoo, English hair stylists boiled shaved

    soap in water and added herbs to give the hair shine and fragrance

    Kasey Hebert was the first known maker of shampoo, and the

    origin is currently attributed to him.

    Commercially made shampoo was available from the turn of the

    20th century.

    HUL leader from the early 90s.

    Sunsilk launched in 1964 (General Shampoo platform )

    Clinic Plus launched in 1971 ( Family, health shampoo platform )

    Sunsilk re-launched in 1987 - Shampoo + Conditioner ( Beauty

    SHAMPOO INGREDIENTS

    Though the basic function of any shampoo is to clean your hair and

    scalp, using the right shampoo for your hair type is important to stay

    protected and keep your hair looking good. Investigating and

    understanding the list of ingredients in shampoo is a good way to gain

    a basic understanding of how different shampoos function.

    Surfactant

    Surfactants are fatty acid detergents in shampoo that work to loosen

    and remove dust, dirt and oil. The chemical makeup and amount of

    detergent, usually between 2 and 8 percent, determines its strength and

    cleaning ability.

    Foaming Agent

    The main job of a foaming agent is to make lather. While

    detergents do have some foaming properties, foaming agents are

    alkanolamides, or detergent additives, responsible for increasing foam

    Emulsifier

    Emulsifier ingredients in shampoo work as binding agents to keepother ingredients from separating. This is especially important inmoisturizing shampoos that contain additional, oil-based ingredients.

    Emulsifiers also work to thicken shampoo.

    Humectants

    Humectants, common in moisturizing shampoo or shampoodesigned for dry hair, attract moisture from the air and work to keepmoisture from evaporating.

    PH Agents

    To counter the effects of alkaline detergents, pH agents, or buffers, work tomake shampoo slightly acidic. An acidic environment helps to keep the hair cuticlesmooth and lying flat against the hair shaft, preventing your hair from becomingdull or rough looking. Typical pH agents include citric acid and sodium citrate.

    Other Ingredients

    Although water is in the list of other ingredients, it is actually the mainingredient in any shampoo. Most shampoos are 80 to 90 percent water.

    Manufacturers include other shampoo additives such as fragrance oils, coloringand materials such as botanical extracts, proteins and vitamins to distinguishand market their products.

    PANTENEPantene is a brand of hair care products owned by Procter &

    Gamble. The product line was first introduced in Europe in 1947

    by Hoffman-LaRoche of Switzerland, which branded the name

    based on panthenol as a shampoo ingredient.

    Than it was purchased by Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1985 in

    order for P&G to compete in the "beauty product" market rather

    than only functional products. The brand's best-known product
